On November 22, 1976, a lavish gold-and-white themed party was held for Colin Tennant (the future Lord Glenconnor) on the Caribbean island of Mustique. Princess Margaret’s embroidered caftan and dramatically embellished silk turban made a statement memorable enough to be included in a Kensington Palace fashion exhibit several years ago.

We saw this at Kensington Palace in 2016, it’s gorgeous. Princess Margaret was tiny but this made her truly stand out.
What a fabulous outfit! Exquisite.
Fabulous, and entirely appropriate for the occasion.
In this case the turban fits the costume. And that jewel-my goodness, it’s huge! Turbans are probably my least favorite kind of hat. They don’t seem to add to the loveliness of the facial features and cover up the hair almost completely.
Not a “less is more” kind of girl, was she? Other than the jeweled ornament, the turban is not so different from some of those she ordinarily wore.
