Inventory: Hereditary Grand Duchess Stéphanie’s Yellow Hats

Hereditary Grand Duchess Stéphanie celebrates her 36th birthday today and to mark this, we’re taking a look at all of the yellow hats she has worn:

1.    2.
Designer: both are unknown
Introduced: June 18, 2016; May 25, 2018

We don’t see a lot of yellow hats worn on royal heads and while I’m not sure it’s Stéphanie’s best colour, I applaud the courage and confidence needed to wear such a stand-out colour.

  1. While agreeing that she can do better in other colors than yellow, I rather like #1 from a style standpoint, and could possibly like #2 if I could see it from different angles.

JamesB, I’m guessing that “IKEA look” is intended as a putdown, but even so, can’t imagine what you mean by it.

    • Correction to my previous comment – I missed the other views of hat #2 in the link. It definitely looks more interesting from the back. Would have liked it better if the bow (the best part) were a bit more to the side so it could be seen from more angles.

    • I immediately thought of IKEA/Swedish flag on seeing the strong blue and yellow – and not in a putdown kind of way. Every time I see these two colours together I think the same and in the case of royal hats and outfits look to see if they’re visiting Sweden!

      • Having looked online, I understand now that the IKEA reference has to do with the colors of their logo and advertising. We don’t have any IKEAs around here and it’s been at least 10 years or more since I’ve been in one so I didn’t make that connection. My apologies to JamesB for speculating that it was a putdown — I thought he meant that the hat looked like it had been put together from a kit! My own reaction colorwise would have been that it was Amscot colors — a company that handles check cashing, bill paying, and money orders that has dozens of locations around this part of Florida.

        • I haven’t been in an IKEA for donkey’s years either. The colours separately or together aren’t my favourites for stores or hats. Just a little too bright as if someone has added too much pigment to the mix. The yellow is a difficult colour to wear especially around the face.

  2. While the hat could be restyled, that IKEA look with the wide brimmed hat wasn’t her best. I quite like the second one though, it does need to be scooched around the head a bit, but it’s a good shape on her.
