to this day in 2006, 15 years ago, when the former Empress of Japan arrived for a state visit to Thailand in a large white saucer hat trimmed with the loveliest deep peacock blue silk flowers.

Just beautiful! The white contrasts perfectly with the stunning peacock blue.
Such a beautiful and perfectly made hat! I also miss seeing Michiko and her elegant fashions, but hope she is enjoying her retirement.
Always elegant and refined. Her husband’s tie is a very nice compliment also.
This hat is beyond delightful! I’ve never seen this one before unfortunately, but it can make a comeback any day if the Empress Emerita wants to do so. 😉 That peacock blue is such a good color for her.
Such a pretty and delicate hat – it looks perfect on her.
Harking back to Mathilde’s hat of a few days ago and the puckering issues I always think the hats worn by the Japanese royals look beautifully crafted. I may not always like the design but the workmanship looks beautiful.
That is a stunning hat.
I miss Empress Michiko with her sweet hats. The peacock blue color is delicious!
