Milestone Birthday: Queen Anne-Marie

To mark Queen Anne-Marie’s 75th birthday today we’re looking back at some of her hats and headpieces (click on individual photos to jump to their original source with dates and event explanations):

While I adore Queen Anne-Marie’s wonderful 1960s pillboxes, I think the bolder, more exaggerated shapes of her early 2000s hats stand out here. What do you notice about her hats?

  1. Queen Anne-Marie looks great in all these hats. My eye was drawn to something else also.
    1. Her beautiful red tweed/fur lined coat was shown here four times, 10 years apart; brava! Could the 2002 and 2006 outings be the same hat, but updated?
    2. The pale blue suit she wore in 2004 (with fascinator) and 2005 (with large hat) was clearly altered/added to, but I’m not sure if it was an improvement. Thoughts?

    • I forgot to include this pairing:
April 30, 2006: King Carl’s 60th birthday celebration: definitely not an improvement, IMO.

      • I would like the lace on the V of the jacket better if there were not also lace on the blouse. (i.e. a solid color blouse — coordinating solid grey perhaps, but not lace.)

  2. She’s always very elegant, and looks way younger than her years. It’s crazy to think of what she took on at barely 18 years old, they really must have an absolute love match to have endured so long, and so many challenges in their early marriage.

As for the hats, not a bad one here, I have to say I’m a sucker for her early 60s looks, she was very glam. It’s in one of your slideshows but the shiny brown Stetson work for Princess Anne’s wedding is a winner – there’s a sentence I never thought I’d type.
