Which coat do you prefer most with this hat?

2 is elegant but boring, not fond of 3, and 4. 5 is fine, but the hat has no opportunity to shine with such a dark outfit making it look darker too (quite apart from the umbrella). I actually like the concept of 6, but the dress doesn’t go (dfferent colour from the hat, too fussy with the coat) – put the dress from number 1 into this outfit and I think it would be a winner. My overall preference is definitely number 1, though. The colours go well, the collarless coat adds interest, and it’s a handsome look. Just to add that I think this is a hat that should really be worn only on bright days – the difference it makes to the depth and richness of the colour is huge.
I believe we’ve talked about the color difference indoor vs outdoor lighting makes on a hat, but I can’t recall discussions of outdoor bright vs cloudy days — yes, Bristol, you are quite right about this, I hadn’t thought of it before.
I like MM’s far back of head hat style that she favours, but the shaping of this one does have a look of having been sat on. It’s not as good as the sleek grey or white pillboxes she wears.
None of these looks wow me. 2 and 4 are the best with the sleek styling. I love the coat in 6 but the dress needs to be totally plain, and then the whole look would be quite fab.
My fave is #2 because of the jewelry matching the hat! I love it! Besides, the styling is very nice and sleek!
Such a great hat, chic design and color for CP Mette-Marit. I like the contrast with the lighter colored coats, but the periwinkle coat in #1 looks wonderful. That’s surprising to me as I don’t really match grape and periwinkle, but it works.
I like looks #1 through 3, agreeing with Gigi that #1 is the best both in terms of styling and balance of dark and light. I don’t care for #4 because the shade of purple in the dress doesn’t seem to quite go with the hat, or #5 — too dark — I might like it better if there had been some light-colored thing to break up the darkness, for example, I think it would have looked better if the scarf had been dotted to match the dress. #6, again I agree with Gigi, the dress and coat are each very fussy in their own way, but not in a way that coordinates together. It honestly wouldn’t have made any difference what hat she would have worn with that combo, the hat is essentially overpowered by the embroidery and dress trim below. (Though I do like that bag she is carrying — that goes very nicely with the hat.)
I like #1, #2 and #4 the best, with #1 being my #1. I also like the hat with the coat in #5. I am not a fan of the dress hanging out from underneath the coat in that look. In look 6, while I like all the parts individually, all together it is too much. I think the hat with the coat alone would be good, but the dress and the coat are competing too much. As far as #3, I do not care for that coat at all. It’s too tight and the color does not do much for Mette-Marit like the brighter colors do. Also, the fur neck is ghastly–too long and scraggly. Even a beautiful hat like this cannot elevate that coat. It needs to be sheared. Ending on a positive note, there are some really beautiful colors among these outfits that I love on her!
