Platinum Jubilee Countdown: 60

In 1953 and 1954, Queen Elizabeth added numerous small ‘half hats’ in a calot shape to her wardrobe. These featured heavily on the Commonwealth Tour, the hats’ small scale well suited for tropical climates and offering an open view of Her Majesty to the crowds upon crowds of people who came see her.

  1. This hat shape reminds me of “I Love Lucy” of the 50s. The emerald green is my favorite shade. I’m not as thrilled with the jacket and dress combination. Do they go together, style wise?

  2. Though not one of my favourite shapes of hat on the young Queen, this calot style complemented the beautiful summer dresses that she wore on the Commonwealth tour. The whole look was youthfully elegant.
