In 1963, Queen Elizabeth wore this turban edged in spiky silk leaves on multiple occasions- in Sydney and Canberra during the March Australian visit, to open New Zealand House in London on May 9, and at Goodwood racecourse on on the 2nd of August.

The ensemble is ORANGE! When HM opened the Menzies Library in Canberra, the following information (and a poor quality colour photo) emerged. Happy reading on this Monday morning.

Brilliant find Jimbo!
I’m not too keen on this hat but the overall look is very chic on Queen Elizabeth. I’m imagining it to be a soft green which would be lovely.
I think I’d like this one better if it had the leaves all over it, instead they form a fringe around the edge, so they look a bit disjointed. Another chic, simple 60s outfit with a fussy hat; this was definitely her groove by now.
I quite like the chic-simple-outfit-with-a-fussy-hat concept. (So nice for the milliner!)
I wish we could see the hat in colour. There seems to be braided tulle on the top of the crown or something equally foamy, in a lighter hue. Maybe this hat actually looks better, or more logical in colour? And could it be Simone Mirman design?
I don’t like this at all but what I do like is the look on the gentleman’s face in the second picture who looks thoroughly bemused and amused by the hat.
Well, a few days ago we had a posy upended on HM’s head, now we have a potted plant! Weird, but strangely effective.
