Hat From the Past

Starting today, I’ll be away from the blog for a few weeks but have lined up multiple posts per week to keep you entertained during my absence I’ll return the week after the Danish Jubilee and Belgian royal wedding and will cover those events when I’m back.

Royal Hats 40 years ago to this day in 1982 when Princess Madeleine was christened at the Royal Chapel at the Royal Palace in Stockholm. Queen Silvia wore a blue padded satin bandeau with silk flowers on either side while Crown Princess Victoria wore a sweet blue floral hair wreath.

  1. We’ve previously noted that smaller headpieces are especially appropriate for royal christenings since they keep the focus on the baby. This one works very well, and the color is beautiful.

HQ, since you’re using this as a bit of an open post, I hope you don’t mind some hats (actually headpieces) from the distant past. I saw this exhibit recently: https://www.artic.edu/exhibitions/9703/kingfisher-headdresses-from-china, and thought some might be interested. We’ve seen many feathers on royal hats, but never used this way. Amazing craftsmanship to cut the feathers up and mount them so they look like gems.

  2. Princess Hisako at hatted events. So great to see the second hat out again!

  3. Wonderful addition to Queen Elizabeth’s millinery wardrobe. I really hope she wears it!!

  4. Queen Margrethe yesterday

  5. This couldn’t be more 80s! Kinda fabulous though, and you can see Queen Silvia’ as current style very kick referenced here.

    Have a wonderful break HQ!
