Ascot 2024 Day 2: The Edinburghs

The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh celebrated their 25th wedding today at Royal Ascot! The Duke repeated his black antique silk top hat (still the most gleaming one in the family)

The Duchess wore a white sinamay hat with dramatically extended brim on one side, trimmed with a slim sinamay hatband and large white crin swirled flower.

It’s a romantic choice, perhaps an anniversary statement? I’m neither a fan of the parts- the pale colour lessens the hat’s impact, as does it’s lack detail and the less I say about the dress, the better- nor do I like the overall look, which reads ‘historically inaccurate Edwardian costume.”

Milliner: Jane Taylor. Dress by Suzannah London.
Previously Worn: This hat is new.

The standout piece here, for me, is the Duke’s tie, printed with jockey silks and saddles! What are your thoughts?

  1. This is a miss for me for the Duchess. I like the top part of the dress but when you see the whole thing and the weird sheer section at the bottom it veers into no. And I just can’t help but feel the hat looks like a melting potato chip. She’s had much more successful (IMO) looks recently.

  2. Edward’s topper is first rate! But, HatQueen, I have to respectfully disagree with you on his tie. He has worn this tie to Royal Ascot again and again over the years. Clever idea (the first 5-6 times!) but it is time for a new tie DofE! LOL

The Duchess’s look was a miss for me today. Too much, too much!

  3. Oh. I liked this until I saw the full length pic! The hat I like, though I do agree the trim could do with a bit of variation, it’s a bit of a cream blob.
The dress, yep… when I thought it was one of her go to 1950’s silhouette frocks. That would have been fab. This is just a bit odd. The over lay definitely needs shortening, it’s an odd, somewhat unflattering length. That aside, really like it.

  4. Hi. The dress would be better if the overlay ended at the hem of the underskirt. That see through section is a huge no for me. The hat is blah and overall it’s a whole lot of ivory. Not my fav look on Sophie.
