Ascot 2024 Day 3: The King & Queen

The King joined his wife for the third day of racing today at Ascot Racecourse, again in his black silk top hat (and another coloured waistcoat!).

Queen Camilla wore in third new hat in as many days, a wide brimmed design in white sinamay with sweeping brim upturned on one side and a swirl-peaked crown. The hat is dwarfed by a giant white silk rose and wired white silk sashes that fan out around the crown.

Like yesterday’s hat, these as flying, stacked sashes give wonderful texture and movement to the design. Have we seen the shape before? Absolutely. As for the colour… after two days of gorgeous blue, a return to cream is a bit of a letdown not even that giant rose can lift.

  1. I appreciate the drama, but I think the rose could be much smaller. All that white certainly sets off that gobsmacker of an emerald!

  2. The hat is great, and I actually love the white, it shows off that emerald brooch like no other. And the hat trim feels dramatic but not heavy (like day 1)

  3. I love this hat! It’s reminiscent of another of her Ascot hats, Big Pink, with the giant rose. Love it!

  4. I guess Ascot is the place to wear a hat with everything on it but this one has too much going on. That flower is bigger than her head.
