Princess Estelle In a Hat For First Official Engagement

Princess Estelle of Sweden undertook her first royal engagement yesterday, opening a new fairy tale path at Lake Takern. Little Estelle, who was accompanied by her parents Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel, wore a white summer hat for this event. Adorable!

Birthday of Swedish King

King Carl Gustaf of Sweden celebrated his 68th birthday today with a military parade at the Royal Palace in Stockholm. The King and his son, Prince Carl Philip, attended the event in military uniform.

Members of the Swedish royal family watched the ceremony from a balcony above the courtyard. Little Princess Estelle was the only family member in a headpiece, wearing one of her signature (and oh-so adorable) head bows.

Catching Up With the Young Royals

While most of the royal media’s attention has been on a certain young Prince’s tour down under, two other young royal ladies recently stepped out in hats. For her mama’s return to competitive riding this weekend at the SYMM International Horse Trials, little Mia Tindall made her official royal hat debut in a knitted white cap complete with bunny ears.

On April 16, Princess Estelle of Sweden joined her mother, Crown Princes Victoria, at the Aquarium Skansen in Stockholm to open an exhibit on frogs. Estelle wore a double bow barette in her hair and as usual, looked adorable.

Day 2 of Swedish Royal Visit to The Netherlands

King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia completed the second day of their quick trip to the Netherlands with a visit to the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam on Saturday. Queen Silvia repeated her white calot hat embellished with a large looped bow at the back. It is an elegant hat we have seen a few times on Silvia and I think she wears it well. Interesting note- last time Queen Silvia wore this hat, she rotated it so the bow was on the side, framing her face. I thought the way she wore it today, with the bow at the back, coordinated beautifully with her bouclé suit. Separating the ruffled lapels of her suit with the large, loopy bow was a good idea, don’t you think? I thought her whole ensemble was very elegant.

Queen Máxima repeated her charcoal grey wool hat with dramatic raised brim. This is the fourth time we have seen this hat and each time Máxima has paired it with a different dress (which speaks to the versatility of this hat). I thought the clean neckline of this dress was the perfect match for the lines of this hat and I loved how her large hoop earrings completed the look. We don’t often see hoop earrings worn with a picture hat but this worked so well.

It looks like a lovely two days were had by these royal friends. Which hat worn during this visit was your favourite? (here are hats from the first day of this visit).

Swedish Royals Visit The Netherlands

King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia arrived in The Netherlands today to begin a two-day visit. They were greeted by King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima at the Royal Palace in Amsterdam.

Queen Máxima repeated the same silver headpiece and suit she wore for Princess Arianne’s christening in 2007. While I did not like this headpiece the last time we saw it (last November worn with a jade lace dress), there is something about this suit and hat that just works together. I think it might be the clean lines and round neck of that beautiful jacket that coordinate with the clean lines and round shape of the hat. Nevertheless, I thought Máxima looked so regal and elegant in this ensemble that I nearly forgot this hat is not closed on top and simply wraps in silver rings around her head.

Queen Silvia topped her red coat off with a smart black beret (if this hat looks familiar, take a peek here!). We often see Silvia in pillbox and calot hats and it was a nice change to see her in this modern, structured beret. The scale of this hat was very flattering on her, as was the styling of her hair with it. Compared to Queen Máxima it may seems a little boring but on it’s own, I think it is a lovely hat. What do you think of this pair of royal hats today?
