On April 21, Crown Princess Kiko wore a white silk covered pillbox on a visit to Ise Jingu’s Geku and Naiku  for “Rikkoshi no Rei” rites. The next day, she wore a black silk covered pillbox to visit the mausoleums of Emperor Komei and Empress Eishō in Kyoto

Also on April 22, Princess Yoko of Mikasa attended the Spring Equinox Festival at Yasukuni Shrine in a white silk covered hat with very short brim.

And the winner of the Melbourne International Millinery Competetition, made of recycled and reused material, is this sharp design by Australian milliner and costumer Andrea Cainero. Such a fantastic take on modern militaristic millinery!

Princess Sofia participated in the women’s Tjejvasan Cross Country Ski Race yesterday, cheered on by Prince Carl Philip, Prince Alexander, Prince Gabriel and her parents.


Fabienne Delvigne announced the oping of an e-shop where you can purchase her millinery and accessory designs.

The Queen Elizabeth II Award for British Design was given to designer Richard Quinn this week (see final photo in this post). The actual award was designed by Angela Kelly who was profiled in this Vogue article.

Quick note before we get into the news- I’m setting off on vacation today until October 20. I have prepared a post to keep you entertained each day while I am away and have kept comments open for you to chat among yourselves and share any hats worn that day. Between the Danish opening of parliament next Tuesday and the Dutch state visit to Portugal the week after, there will certainly be hats for you to share and discuss. See you in three weeks!
