80 years to August 6, 1939. It’s a lovely picture painted here- a wonderfully whimsical feathered hat on a young Queen Elizabeth (the Queen Mother), who appears to be having a lovely time with American First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt. There’s a joyful lightheartedness here that would be obliterated less than four weeks later with the outbreak of WW II.

to 1945 and this view of King Christian X and Queen Alexandrine of Denmark at the end of WWII. Despite 75 years passing from the time this photo was taken, the Danish Queen’s sidesweeping veiled hat with floral trim could fit in easily today.
