Members of the Swedish Royal Family gathered in Stockholm today to honour the four victims (and 15 people who were injured) of last week’s terrorist attack. King Carl Gustaf led the family in a black trilby hat.

Crown Princess Victoria repeated her Garbo hat in black rabbit fur felt with gently curved brim. The hat is simply trimmed with a Petersham ribbon hatband and rough edged bow, which Victoria wore at the back (as opposed to the front, where we saw it last time).

Princess Sofia wore some sort of black bowed headpiece, anchored in her chignon
Such simple, classic hat shapes work well for such events as these, don’t they?

On March 22, members of the Imperial family joined the Emperor and Empress a concert by music college graduates at the Imperial Palace. Princess Kiko wore a blue bumper hat, Princess Kako a white bowler, Princess Nobuko a large white toque and Princess Akiko, a white trilby with sea foam green hatband. The same day, Princess Hanako attended the 75th Award Ceremony of All Japan Youth Invention and Innovation Exhibition. She wore a pale blue felt hat with jauntily upturned short brim. On March 29, Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko offered prayers for Emperors Showa and Kojun at the Imperial Musashi Mausoleum in Hachiōji, Tokyo. The Empress wore a grey saucer with raised rim around the back and a folded bow at the side.
Don’t worry- I haven’t forgotten Prince Felix’s confirmation in Denmark yesterday. We’ll look at the hat and headpieces from this event in a full feature post tomorrow.

Our friends over at Luxarazzi have an interesting interview with milliner Sylvia Martinez about her participation in a recent exhibition which included designing pieces for Grand Duchess Maria Teresa and Hereditary Grand Duchess Stéphanie. I’m curious to hear your thoughts on her designs.

Some very interesting millinery at the Chanel runway show this week- see here for the closeup and here for the full ensemble. I’m not sure I’m feeling the slouchy crowns. Also interesting were Dolce and Gabbana’s lavish floral crowns and Stephen Jones’ over-the-face angel wings at Dior. And I have no words whatsoever for Stephen Jones’ men’s tweed caps.
I’d love to see this crimson and gold feathered fedora by Jess Collett at the Cheltenham races this year on a royal head. What a fun style departure it would be for the Duchess of Cambridge.

Have you heard about the Georgian Papers Programme, in which more than 350,000 usually unseen royal documents from the Georgian period (most relating to King George III and Queen Charlotte) are being made available online? This article at the Guardian has a great explanation of the project as does this page from the Royal Collection Trust. The project went live this morning.
