Danish Queen and Princess Celebrate DEMA

Queen Margrethe and Princess Marie of Denmark marked the 75th anniversary of DEMA (Danish Emergency Management Agency) by attending a  reception at the agency’s headquarters in Birkeroe. While Marie was in uniform, Queen Margrethe wore the charcoal grey trilby (complete with koosh ball trim) she last wore for the opening of Parliament in 2008. It’s a good hat shape for her, don’t you think?

President Sauli Niinistö of Finland and his wife, Jenni Haukio arrived in Copenhagen this morning for a two day state visit to Denmark.

Queen Margrethe wore the white fur trimmed flat pillbox-esque hat she wore in February for the sign language bible release, and for her Ruby Jubilee last year.

Mrs. Haukio wore a small cream rosette looped and feathered fascinator. She seems a fan of the fascinator- she also wore one for the first day of her state visit to Norway last October.

Crown Princess Mary repeated the Philip Treacy burgundy felt cloche with silk bow she’s worn seven times before (most recently at Queen Margrethe’s Ruby Jubilee last year). Princess Marie wore a new bandeau headpiece of curling black organdie ribbon and feathers. Princess Benedikte wore a turquoise felt stylised trilby with extended brim around the front.

This short video of Queen Margrethe, Prince Henrik, President Niinistö and Mrs. Haukio  arriving at the Palace also shows some great hat footage. I thought it was a pretty predictable hat day by the Danes today. What did you think? Which hat was your favourite?

Slovakian State Visit to Denmark

Slovakian President Ivan Gasparovic and his wife Silvia arrived in Denmark today for a state visit. The Danish Royal family arrived at the airport to greet them with hats in tow. Queen Margrethe repeated an electric blue beanie cap that I just can’t find much good to say about (any hat that makes a queen look either bald or like a Teletubby is just WRONG).  I think this hat should be retired.

Princess Marie wore a charcoal grey Garbo hat to match her lovely grey coat dress, but I think the floppy brim of the hat made it fall flat. One of her structured pillboxes would have better suited the structured military cut of her coat dress, me thinks. The only successful hat of the day (in  my humble opinion!) was Princess Mary’s structured dark blue felt chapeau designed by Danish milliner Susanne Juul. It was absolutely splendid.

Danish Opening of Parliament 2012

The Danish Royal Family attended the Opening of Parliament in Copenhagen today. Queen Margrethe repeated the wonderful purple ensemble she wore at her Ruby Jubilee in February of this year.

Mary looked great in a structured black wide-brimmed hat also designed by Susanne Juul that we’ve seen her wear before. I like this hat- the wool crown and straw brim make make it interesting and light. Mary must like it too because she has the exact same hat in purple.

Princess Marie was looked smart in a greige monochrome ensemble topped with a petite straw pillbox hat.

The Queen’s sister, Princess Benedikte, wore a Susanne Juul stacked red wool felt beret. I thought the asymetrical shape looked great on her and livened up her plaid suit.
