Today, we come to our third and final post in our 75th Birthday Celebration for Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands. We’ve already looked at her early hats and her lighthearted hats– today we conclude with the majestic hats. These are hats fit for a Queen, and hats that I think show Queen Beatrix at her millinery best. Like the funny hats, these fit into several distinct categories.
The Upturned Brims. I suspect at the top of a Queen’s job description is to make sure she is seen by her people. Hats can make this difficult sometimes but Queen Beatrix is a master at finding large hats with upturned brims that do not restrict her visibility to the masses.

The Boater: While we tend to associate Queen Beatrix with her Hat Cakes (and multi-tiered Hat Cakes), many her hats over the past 20 years have followed a boater shape with a flat crown and brim.

The Double Brims: Why be just a little queenly with one brim when you can be REALLY queenly with two?!

And finally…. The Spectacles. The thing I love most about Queen Beatrix’s style is that she’s not afraid to take things over the top. These are the hats that prove this queen has no millinery fear. I absolutely adore her for that.

This wraps up my series on Queen Beatrix’s hats. Which one of her signature styles is your favourite?!
Photos from Getty as indicated
My favorite is the purple one with leaves wrapped around it #154.
#144-155 are the best!
Dear HatQueen, first of all let me thank you for this effort to gather and post 155 stunning pictures!
I liked them all. I didn’t know so many shades of colours and so many shapes exists in the world.
My favourites are #102,128,132,135 and 155. Hard to coose 🙂
You are most welcome! It is very hard to choose but you have picked some beauties. I still can’t believe her reign is nearly over.
No clear favorite, but I will say Bea looks fabulous in bright colors. She looks absolutely smashing in red #108 AND pink #155!
I thought I had replied but YES she looks wonderful in that red hat!
I love #132 the hat she wore for Princess Amalia’s baptism. It was sweet- after having three boys, she finally had a granddaughter. The pink hat was so sweet and I loved the flowers on the side.
It was very sweet indeed. Although- Amalia was her second granddaughter (after Eloise). No matter- Beatrix was probably thrilled to have some daughters born into the family!
Queen Beatrix changed from her signature hat style in the early 90’s, then came back to it in the late 90’s. In between there are some very fun looking fantastical hats. How did this come about? Was there a different designer or consultant during this period?
Great question- and one I don’t have an answer to. Maybe another reader here knows who designed these hats?
UPDATE: Gottfried, I’ve done some digging and wrote a post for you to answer this question. Here it is!
