King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima were the stars of today and shine they did. Máxima chose a tiara instead of a hat (as expected) but pulled out one of the big guns with the Dutch Mellerio Tiara. With her amazing dress and cape, I think she looked every bit a queen without taking away too much focus from the man of the hour, King Willem-Alexander (it’s going to take some getting used to these new titles!). They both looked, in a word, perfect.

When I saw the first picture of Queen Maxima all I could think of was “WOW”. I thought was was going to wear pink because she wears that a lot but this blue was the most beautiful color on her, especially with that amazing tiara.
I thought the same thing. She knocked this one out of the park. I was worried after she wore that terrible red dress (with bad hair and makeup) the night before. This tiara was made for her.
Ditto.
Flawless. She was flawless
That tiara is amazing. Is it hers?
It’s part of the Dutch Royal Collection. There’s an excellent history of it here.
I hoped she would be wearing this tiara. It looked beautiful. Taminiau’s dress design is better than anything I dreamed.
Herself, the girls as well as Mathilde de Belgique are all wearing Nathan dresses! I looove her cape! FA-BU-LOUS!
I agree- Maxima looks every bit a Queen this morning. And that cape is beyond description it’s so beautiful!
I’ve just confirmed that this blue dress was designed by Dutch designer Jan Taminiau. NATAN designed the dresses of the girls as well as the pale beigey pink ensemble Maxima wore for the abdication ceremony.
She looked every inch a queen. That tiara looks way better on her than it ever did on Beatrix. I hope she wears it lots in the future
Yes. Very regal. Her behaviour was also subdued and respectful of the solemnity of this day.
STUNNING. STUNNING. STUNNING.
The cape was amazing. Very Gwyneth Paltrow Oscars 2012
She made the right choice. Many thought she would choose the Stuart but that would have made her the focus. This was a grand tiara but not so grand that she outshone the king.
