In her first public engagement since the inauguration and the enthronement of the new Dutch King and Queen, Princess Beatrix visited the Villa Mondriaan in Winterswijk yesterday. She opened an exhibition of famed Dutch artist Pieter Cornelis Mondriaan, Jr. entitled, Where it All Started. For this visit, she wore the same red straw brimless hat by Suzanne Moulijn she wore on a visit to Doha in March 2011.
This particular hat has an interesting navy ring around the crown not visible in today’s photos. I’m not a great fan of these brimless hat “cakes” but it was so wonderful to see Beatrix looking her usual bright smiling self after her big transition this month that I’m not going to complain about this one.

The bright colour is so magnificent on Princess Beatrix. And her necklace match so nicely. I find this hat is ravishing!
It is a beautiful and flattering hat on her. I really like the navy trim on the top with this outfit (not the last one). It still seems strange to call her princess instead of queen!
I love the color of this one and it looked better – thanks to the whole outfit – than when she first wore it.
But except on Bea, I wouldn’t fancy such a “cake” hat, as you described it.
I was thinking the very same thing. The last dress she wore this hat with didn’t look good at all. Today the navy and red is so elegant together and this hat is just perfect. I also really like her necklace.
Yes- these “cake hats” only work on Beatrix. On anyone else they would look terrible.
I agree with you gals. Queen Princess Beatrix looks just skkookum in this hat and dress and cape and necklace. She shore is elegant and I just love her style more each time.
