Princess Anne Attends ‘Not Forgotten’ Garden Party

Princess Anne, The Princess Royal, attended the “Not Forgotten Association Garden Party” for injured former servicemen and women at Buckingham Palace today. She wore a turquoise blue straw hat  with a small brim trimmed with three straw calla lilies.  I want to like this hat but something about the size and proportion of the crown looks off to me. What do you think?

Queen Elizabeth Arrives in Scotland

Queen Elizabeth arrived in Edinburgh yesterday to begin ‘Holyrood Week’, a week of engagements to celebrate Scottish achievement, culture and history. To receive keys to the city from Lord Provost Donald Wilson, the The Queen repeated this beautiful mint green hat with swirled feather trim. This photo does not do this hat justice- check out the linked photos below from one of the other five times Her Majesty has worn this hat. So lovely!

Dutch Royal Couple Commemorate the End of Slavery

As today is the 150th anniversary since the abolition of slavery in the Dutch colonies, King Willem-Alexander and  Queen Máxima of the Netherlands attended a special National Slavery Memorial Service in Amsterdam. For this event, Máxima repeated one of most striking (and one of my most favourite) hats. Designed by Fabienne Delvigne, this natural straw cap is embellished with straw curling tails and a large cream silk garden rose. Today was the third time Máxima has worn this hat (she wore it in Germany in April 2011 and to a military parade in The Hague in May 2009) and I was very excited to see it again. I love it because it is the perfect balance of elegance with creative craziness (if it were a bright colour I don’t think it would work nearly as well). What do you think of this unusual hat?

Danish Royal Couple Arrives in Aarhus

Queen Margrethe and Prince Henrik of Denmark arrived in Aarhus this morning on  the royal yacht Dannebrog came the royal couple on Sunday morning sailing to Aarhus. This arrival begins the royal couple’s summer vacation spent in residence at Marselisborg Castle. Queen Margrethe wore one of her regular red straw hats (last seen in June  for the presentation of the Queen Ingrid Research Prize). I still think this is a great hat on Margrethe although the rest of her outfit doesn’t look very summery, does it?
