Danish Royals attend the Opening of Parliament

Queen Margrethe, Prince Henrik, Crown Prince Frederik, Crown Princess Mary, Prince Joachim, Princess Marie and Princess Benedikte were all in attendance this morning for the official opening of Danish Parliament. As per tradition, the women were all in hats! Alas, it was all repeats today but a repeated hat is better than no hat at all, don’t you think?

Queen Margrethe wore her charcoal grey koosh ball trimmed trilby. It’s such a sharp little design, especially paired with that pop of magenta on her blouse.

Crown Princess Mary repeated her staple black wool hat with straw brim and double feather trim. We have seen this hat a lot, and with many different outfits and it always looks great.

Princess Marie wore the black looped ribbon fascinator we first saw on her last month. It’s a little sedate for a fascinator but Marie wears it well. I thought she looked quite polished and elegant.

Princess Benedikte wore what I think might be a new hat. This chocolate brown wool bumper hat featured a tall, rolled  upturned brim patterned with diagonal stripes. The stripes were an attractive touch although I’m not sure this style and colour is my favourite for Benedikte. We have seen her look so beautiful in more brightly coloured hats- I just don’t think this colour is for her.

Some minor quirks aside, they were an attractively hatted family today, weren’t they? Which one of these hats was your favourite?

  1. CPMary is the most beautiful…have seen this hat before and still love it. She has the prefect shape face for hats. very stunning woman. I love the black lace, it knocks the suit out of the park so to speak. This is going outside the her comfort zone, very nice indeed! Marie, looks like a pile of mishmass on her head, pretty lady, not a great hat and as usual the Queen looks great, just not that color, blue is her color!

  2. Mary again! I would also like to see all the outfits she has worn with the hat. She always looks very elegant in a hat they suit her so well.

  3. I think Marie wins this one. I just don’t like that lace blouse with Mary’s outfit. Marie looks very elegant. would have liked Benedikte’s better if she’d chosen one with lively colors as in her blouse/scarf. They all look very pleasant.

  4. A pretty good showing all round (if you don’t count Fred’s tie), but I think it’s time Mary splashed out on a new hat! After all, one can never have too many. 🙂

    • I agree the whole look does not work for Mary on this occasion. That said, credit to her for trying to work with what is in the wardrobe and mixing things up a bit. I would really like to see all the outfits she has worn with this hat!

  5. I like all of these hats. Queen Margrethe’s hat looks slightly out of place compared to the other ladies. I think a more formal hat would have suited the occasion better. I like the hats in this order: Princess Benedikte, Princess Marie, Crown Princess Mary, and Queen Margrethe. I really like Princess Benedikte’s hat, but I wish it had been a different color.
