Belgian King and Queen in Namur

King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of Belgium continued their inaugural tour of their country with a visit to Namur, the capital of Wallonia and Namur provinces today. Queen Mathilde sported another new hat, this one in an autumnal pumpkin orange wool. This “New Look” (from Dior’s 1947 collection that took fashion in an entirely new direction) inspired hat hat featured a unified, curved crown and brim trimmed with a large ribbon motif. The brim raised at the back to reveal a flat bow against Mathilde’s head. While I’m still on the fence about the shape of this hat (it seems a little awkward to me) I really like the colour on Mathilde. What do you think of this hat?

  1. I love this hat!! It gives her a edgy look. And I love how Philippe accessorize his tie to his wife’s hat! They both look great!

  2. I love absolutely everything about this ensemble, especially the hat! Orange is Mathilde’s go-to color and she looks great in it. I love those earrings too. The suit is crazy flattering for her and suitably autumnal.

  3. I have to say – since Phillipe became king he doesn’t look so stiff and uncomfortable – he looks happy and more relaxed. He is lucky to have such a lovely queen too 🙂

  4. I. want. this. hat! Unfortunately, Delvigne is not in my budget. 😦 I will have to content myself with photos of Mathilde. Hoping we see this one again!

    • Absolutely. Fabienne Delvigne is creating some amazing hats for Mathilde and Maxima these days. I also love Philippe’s matching tie. Too adorable!

  5. I love this hat! She looks wonderful here. She got everything right! I also love how her husband’s tie always compliments her outfits! (“No Philippe, please don’t wear that tie wear this lovely orange one instead! LOL 🙂 )

  6. I love, love, love this hat! The color is gorgeous and perfect for Mathilde. The shape is unusual, but the seamless flow works well with mathilde’s face and her hair-do.

I was thrilled when I first saw this photo on another website and hoped that you would highlight it on your blog. Thanks!

  7. I think this is great. In the very first photo, from dead straight ahead, the shape looks slightly awkward, because it seems to float above Mathilde’s head a little. But it is super-flattering and chic from every other angle, so overall a definite win. Lovely colour, and such an interesting shape (and I’m always a fan of interesting, even if sometimes it doesn’t quite come off).

  8. OMG, she looks fabulous, I just LOVE THAT HAT. The color is so beautiful and that suit is to die for……….WOW what a beautiful lady. And she sure looks happy and delighted to be there….her eyes sparkle. That hat would look so great with my coat for winter, now where can I get that hat?

      • HI,
Just spent an hour viewing all her hats on her site, she is very talented and wow, the hats are amazing. Did not see Mathilde’s hat on her list. And her shop in in Brussels and I seriously doubt I could afford that hat, yet when I take my vacation to Brussels I am going to go to that shop just to look if she will let me, it’s appointment only also. A girl can dream and I dream of hats. I sometime go to New Orleans and buy a hat or tow, there are some great places down there for hats.

  9. You don’t see many queens or princesses wear orange and it’s so nice to see especially now during the fall! LOL! The only problem with his hat is that it looks like someone sat on it and sqwashed it! LOL!

I like reading these new hat articles in the morning with my coffee but they don’t usually show here until noon or later. How can I see them earlier?

  10. I love that hat! Beautiful color. Not a bright orange, but an orange that you would see from fall leaves. The color of the hat complements the tan suit she is wearing. She looks adorable.
