Queen Máxima of the Netherlands attended the opening of the FrieslandCampina Innovation Centre in Wageningen today. She repeated the charcoal grey hat with upturned brim she wore to Prince Jaime’s wedding earlier this month.

I really like this hat- the wool velvet looks so luxurious and the proportion is really wonderful on Máxima. Today, however, she paired it with a grey coat and dress and the overall ensemble was a little too monochrome for my liking. What do you think of this outfit with this hat?

She looks lovely.
I think her dress looks like a toga and the belt doesn’t match but the hat is beautiful. Gray often looks very “blah” but this shade is very pretty.
Everything looks great on her, except her hair. I love the hat, very chic and becoming, she looks great in this style of hat. This is one Queen that when she smiles, she lights up the room, the entire place, I also like the dress and the jewels. Very good Max, your one beautiful lady!
Ton sur ton. The hair looks better with a chignon
These type of hats (wool velvet with large upturned brim) are my favorites for Maxima, they look amazing on here. This one, the purple one on Prinsjesdag.
I still love the hat, and the outfit overall, although monochrome, has enough gold accents to stop it being too boring, so I think the overall effect is very elegant. However, I agree that the hat would be served better by hair up in some way (although Maxima’s hair down looks very much better and less unkempt at this length than it did a few months ago!)
Hat, jewelry, make-up, gloves, coat…thumbs up! Dress and hair …thumbs down! I like this hat, but I prefer it with her previous outfit worn at the wedding.
I also don’t like the belt. It is so distracting. The hat would be great without her stringy hair.
Her unkempt hair ruins the look. Once again. She looks so beautiful when she combs and styles her hair, I like the hat a lot but the hair ruins it.
I agree that her look is more interesting in the wedding photos, but she is so lovely that it is hard not to think she looks elegant in her understated monochrome look, too.
I love this hat on her – the monochromatic look is OK in my book here – she off-sets it well with the gold accessories and that is enhanced by the gold tone her skin and hair has as well.
I like how the shoulder cape on the dress coordinates with the raised side of the hat.
Ugh. That dress looks like a Matador’s cape half slung over one shoulder and totally ruins the hat.
It looks a bit “heavy” and wintery with a summer looking dress. And the stringy hair doesn’t go well with it. Something seems off, to me..
It looked much nicer when she wore her hair in the neat little side bun. Hair too messy this time.
