Princess Beatrix Visits Hospital Site

It seems the Dutch royals are very busy these days. Princess Beatrix opened the new construction of the St. Antonius Hospital in Utrecht yesterday. She repeated a navy straw hat with flat brim and straight-sided crown wrapped and trimmed in coordinating straw bands. I think I would prefer this hat without the two straw loops on the side but Beatrix looks so happily full of life that I’m not going to nitpick about her hat!

Dutch King and Queen Visit St. Eustatius

King Willem Alexander and Queen Máxima’s inaugural tour of the Caribbean moved on to the island of St. Eustatius today.  Máxima repeated her vivid orange folded straw headpiece and matching cotton day dress for today’s visit. I will post better photos as they are released throughout the day but at first look, I like the hat (she looks to be wearing it to the side instead of on the top of her head as she did last time) but wish she would have chosen smaller earrings.

There was some debate here in the comments yesterday about the appropriateness of Máxima’s fashion choices so far on this tour- I’m interested to hear your responses about her ensemble today. Let’s just keep things a little lighter than yesterday, please!

Princess Beatrix Attends Lecture

Yesterday, Princess Beatrix attended a public lecture at the interface between medicine and society, organized by the Academic Medical Center and the Volkskrant in collaboration with the University of Amsterdam. For this event, she repeated this forest green wool hat with feather-wrapped crown. I think it’s magnificent.

Dutch King and Queen visit Saba

King Willem Alexander and Queen Máxima continued their Caribbean tour with a visit to the smallest municipality of the Netherlands, the small island of Saba. For this visit, Máxima repeated a unique pleated headpiece with looped bows in pale grey. From the side, it looks like some sort of sea creature has latched onto her head but from the front, it frames her face quite nicely. It’s creative and interesting, and it looks much better with her hair and outfit in this outing than it did the first time Máxima wore it. I’m just not sure I’m able to like it. What do you think?

British Royals Visit Manchester

Queen Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh carried out a series of engagements in Manchester today. The Queen took this opportunity to unveil a vibrant new hat! While this hat, made in royal blue wool, follows the same shape as Angela Kelly’s “split crown hats“, it features a contrasting band of turquoise piping around the brim and a band of rough edged royal blue and turquoise yarn trim. With her coordinating coat, the whole look takes on an almost neon level of vibrancy but I’m not sure that’s such a bad thing. She is, after all, the lady that everyone comes to see. I am very curious, dear readers, what you think of this new hat!
