Princess Beatrix Celebrates Lutheran Anniversary

On Saturday afternoon, Princess Beatrix  attended a jubilee symposium connected to the 425th anniversary of the Lutheran city of Amsterdam. She wore another one of her metallic black sparkle straw hats, this one with an hourglass crown,  a sharply upturned brim and a bow at the back. I prefer the shape of her other metallic black sparkle straw hat (this one, worn on Friday last week) as this brimmed one seems just a little to exaggerated and almost cartoon-like. What do you think of this material for a hat? And which one of these metallic black sparkle straw hats do you prefer?

(For those of you who can’t get enough of these metallic black sparkle straw hats, you can see two more styles made for Princess Beatrix in this unique material here and here)

Remembrance Day

The British Royal Family attended an annual Remembrance Day ceremony yesterday at the London cenotaph. The Duke of Edinburgh, The Duke of Kent, The Duke of Cambridge, Prince Harry and Princess Anne all attended in military uniform (as did Princess Anne’s husband, Vice Admiral Timothy Laurence).

The Duchess of Cambridge and The Countess of Wessex both wore embellished black wool berets. Kate’s hat, which we’ve seen a few times before, was trimmed in black felt flowers and leaves while Sophie’s hat looked to be trimmed in a black silk rose bloom and large ribbon bow.

Catching Up with Princess Beatrix

On Friday, Princess Beatrix of the Netherlands attended the 100th anniversary of Erasmus University. For this event, she wore a golden tan straw hat with flat brim, square crown and side bow.

Later that day, Princess Beatrix also attended the opening of the Royal Dutch Historical Society fall conference held at the Royal Library in The Hague. She repeated one of her giant pillboxes, this one in metallic black sparkle straw with a series of wide bands wrapped around the sides of the hat.

And finally, Princess Beatrix attended the opening of an art exhibition featuring the work of Katinka van Rood (her former art teacher) at Palace het Loo in Apeldoorn. This was my favourite hat of the weekend, an oversize sailor-shaped hat in grey straw with black and white bands around the crown and a black under-brim. Paired with her grey ikat dress, I thought she looked rather smart.

British Royals In India

Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall are visiting India for nine days before attending the 2013 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Sri Lanka next week. Today, they attended a Remembrance Day Service at the Afghan Church in Mumbai. Camilla repeated one of her cream picture hats, this one with an upturned brim on one side and light black feathers for trim. Last time we saw her in this hat, I thought something was off about the brim but this time, it looks fine to me. What do you think?

Dutch Royals Visit Russia

King Willem Alexander and Queen Máxima of the Netherlands began a short visit to Russia yesterday. This afternoon, Queen Máxima wore a new scarlet wool felt Garbo-style hat trimmed with a small leather band and bow around the crown. I LOVE this hat on her! Not only is it a fantastic shape and colour on Máxima, it is absolutely dynamite with her tailored red dress. The only thing I’d change here is the earrings. The rest? Absolutely fabulous.
