On Saturday afternoon, Princess Beatrix  attended a jubilee symposium connected to the 425th anniversary of the Lutheran city of Amsterdam. She wore another one of her metallic black sparkle straw hats, this one with an hourglass crown,  a sharply upturned brim and a bow at the back. I prefer the shape of her other metallic black sparkle straw hat (this one, worn on Friday last week) as this brimmed one seems just a little to exaggerated and almost cartoon-like. On Friday, Princess Beatrix of the Netherlands attended the 100th anniversary of Erasmus University. For this event, she wore a golden tan straw hat with flat brim, square crown and side bow.

Later that day, Princess Beatrix also attended the opening of the Royal Dutch Historical Society fall conference held at the Royal Library in The Hague. She repeated one of her giant pillboxes, this one in metallic black sparkle straw with a series of wide bands wrapped around the sides of the hat.

And finally, Princess Beatrix attended the opening of an art exhibition featuring the work of Katinka van Rood (her former art teacher) at Palace het Loo in Apeldoorn. This was my favourite hat of the weekend, an oversize sailor-shaped hat in grey straw with black and white bands around the crown and a black under-brim. Paired with her grey ikat dress, I thought she looked rather smart.
