Queen Elizabeth visited Westminster Hall today and viewed the Diamond Jubilee Window which has been installed in the Great Window. She repeated a pink straw cloche with wide diagonally wrapped brim. It’s not my favourite hat although I must admit, I am warming up to it each time I see it.

She always looks so lovely and elegant. I personally think she looks like a breathe of fresh air. No need to wear all those heavy wools and felts, this was very light and cheerful.
Agreed about the questionable choice of this particular outfit this time of year. A bit curious, but perhaps the outfit has a connection to the day for HM?
Of all the wrapped brim Kelly pieces, this one seems quite successful…probably because the underlying cloche hat is so classic, and the wrap enhances it….yet without sinking into Mad Hatter land! If anything, almost too austere with only that rather unfortunate stiff bow, it could actually stand a carefully chosen touch of whimsy..
I’m not in love with this hat. It’s just ok in my opinion. I think it would be more appropriate in spring or summer rather than December. I do not really care for the fabric the dress, coat, and hat are made from. That being said, I love Her Majesty’s jewelry. (Especially that pin!)
I am loathe to criticize the Queen in any way but this hat doesn’t seem to be the most appropriate choice for London in December. She wore it in May and July and frankly it looks rather summery to me.
I thought the same thing, Beth! It’s a very spring-y outfit choice for December.
Although it’s not going to win your 2013 Favorite Hat of the Year, I find standard “wrapped crown” hat of Angela Kelly attractive and serviceable as a complement to a standard working outfit for HM QE2. The color combination is nice, although surprisingly spring-like for December, and the embellishments on the hat add to a relatively plain dress and (ill-fitting?) coat. It’s too bad one of the ladies in waiting didn’t adjust the coat around the Queen’s neck before the pictures were taken.
Seems an odd choice for this part of winter to me – I would have preferred to see her in a wool or felt
