As we come to the end of 2013, the first full calendar year here on The Royal Hats Blog, I want to hear which royal hat this year was your favourite, as well as your least favourite. I also want to hear about what hat or trend relating to royal hats was most memorable and stood out most this year.
We’re going to start with your favourite. In the comments, tell us which hat was your favourite this year and why. If possible, please include a link to the post here on the Royal Hats Blog that featured that hat so others can link over to see it. I usually don’t edit comment but will add in these links if needed. We’ll keep this conversation going until next Thursday, when we look at our least favourites.
I don’t want to influence your choices but here are some of my favourite royal hats of 2013.Click on each photo to link back to the original post for designer and photo credit information.

This is my pick for favorite royal hat of 2013. I can’t believe no one else picket it!
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/03/12/zara-philips-attends-day-1-of-the-cheltenham-festival/
And to end, Princess Haya of Jordan is perfection at Ascot! (this is the one I want in my closet)
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/06/18/ascot-day-1/
You are right! Princess Haya looks great in this hat.
Looking through Denmark’s archives, I have decided that I hate all of Daisy’s hats. They are just not flattering to her. So my winners there
are CP Mary and Princess Benedickte – they make a great team!
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2012/10/20/luxembourg-wedding-danish-royal-guests/
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/04/23/princess-benedikte-in-esbjerg/
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/06/26/danish-royals-open-chio-2013-in-germany/
From Norway:
Both Queen Sonja and CP Mette-Marit are perfection here
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2012/12/10/nobel-peace-prize/
Martha-Louise looks so elegant here! (I’m so glad she’s left the cray-cray fashion behind)
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2012/10/20/luxembourg-wedding-the-norwegian-royals/
These are great hats but unfortunately, they are from 2012!
Oops! Well I like them anyway! LOL
We don’t see a lot of hat wearing occasions in Monaco, Luxumbourg or Spain, but these are my favorites.
On Charlotte:
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/03/05/is-this-a-borrowed-hat/
Stephanie and Tessy:
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/06/24/luxembourg-royal-family-celebrates-national-day/

On Leti:
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2012/10/20/luxembourg-wedding-the-spanish-royals/
From Sweden, I thought Silvia was lovely in this pillbox
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/04/16/swedish-royals-start-state-visit-to-croatia/
and my heart melts at little Estelle’s pointy gnome hood (my boys had very similar sweaters and I couldn’t bear to give them away)
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/02/23/birthday-of-princess-estelle-of-sweden/
From the Netherlands
This is a typical Beatrix cake hat, but I really love the three colors and it is not boring brown at all!
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/02/27/queen-beatrix-in-arnhem/
Max can rock a big hat, but I think she should consider wearing this shape more often, it’s very flattering!
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/05/04/king-and-queen-of-the-netherlands-celebrate-remembrance-day/
and this one on Max is over the top but I can’t help but SQUEE! every time I see it!
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2012/10/20/luxembourg-wedding-dutch-royal-family/
In Belgium, Queen Mathilde was perfection at the enthronement
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/07/21/three-queens-in-belgium/
and I loved the pumpkin pancake hat that so many of you hated!
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/10/02/belgian-king-and-queen-in-namur/
Mathilde has really upped her hat game and I can’t wait to see what she wears next!
Ok, thank god for history records 😀 Rather than risk that again I’ll do a bunch of short posts, thank you for indulging me! HatQueen this is one of my favorite blogs, thank you for all your hard work and happy first year, may the blog continue for as long as you get pleasure from it (which I selfishly hope is long :-D)
There is no way I can pick only one hat, so I broke it down by country. In Great Britain, these are my favorites:
On Queen Elizabeth (Rachel Trevor Morgan is a Master IMO!)
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/07/03/the-queen-in-scotland/
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/10/29/the-queen-and-duchess-of-cornwall-visit-riding-centre/
Camilla in Wellington
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2012/11/14/diamond-jubilee-tour-wellington/
Both Sophie and Beatrix at Easter
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/03/31/british-royal-family-celebrates-easter/
Autumn Phillips at Ascot as well as Serena Linley’s lovely magenta feathered pillbox that you’ve already pictured
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/06/20/ascot-day-3/
And we can’t forget Harry in his blue beret (swoon!)
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/08/03/prince-harry-visits-the-royal-marines/
ARGH! I just had a huge post and closed the window by accident before hitting post. Be back later….
For me it’s all about Queen Maxima
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/09/17/prinsjesdag-2013/
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/07/01/dutch-royal-couple-commemorate-the-end-of-slavery/

https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/09/02/queen-maxima-kicks-off-fall-term/
Before my friend told me about this blog I had never heard of Queen Maxima (or any queens except for Elizabeth) and now I can’t wait to see what hat she’s going to wear next. So I have to vote for all of her hats too because she’s the reason I keep coming back here!
My favorite is the purple one Lady Gabriella wore.
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/06/15/trooping-of-the-colour-continued/
I love that purple hat
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/06/15/trooping-of-the-colour-continued/
I have to start with Queen Elizabeth. Loved the watermelon color straw hat she wore on Oct. 1
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/10/01/queen-elizabeth-visits-aberdeen-hospital/
And, at Ascot on June 20 it seemed that everyone had a good hat that day. The Queen’s horse won a race and I loved the reactions and the hats of her granddaughters.
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/06/20/ascot-day-3/
Princess Haya looks good in about every hat she puts on. Also Sophie, Countess of Wessex seems to wear hats very well. I too liked the one she wore at the 60th anniv. Not so sure about the dress though.
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/06/04/british-royals-celebrate-coronation/
I’m a dunce at putting links in. I hope you’ll help me out.
Queen Maxima at Prinsjesdag and Queen Mathilde at her inauguration.
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/09/17/prinsjesdag-2013/
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/07/21/three-queens-in-belgium/
I think the best hat this year was this one that Rachel Morgan made for Queen Elizabeth
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/10/29/the-queen-and-duchess-of-cornwall-visit-riding-centre/
It has been so interesting to read everyones comments and see all the hats. The one that I keep going back to is this pink rose hat that Queen Elizabeth wore. I agree that it was my favorite hat this year.
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/10/29/the-queen-and-duchess-of-cornwall-visit-riding-centre/
My favourite hat of all time is this one that Maxima wore. It’s so much fun!
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/07/01/dutch-royal-couple-commemorate-the-end-of-slavery/
This hat is a work of art.
Yes I agree this hat is very attractive as is Queen Mathilde’s hat.
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/07/21/three-queens-in-belgium/
I love that hat too. I also have to share my vote with Queen Maxima and Queen Mathilde’s pink hats
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/11/22/dutch-king-and-queen-arrive-in-colombia/
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/07/21/three-queens-in-belgium/
Easy! Zara Phillips’s chic black cocktail hat.
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/08/01/zara-phillips-at-the-races/
I’ve really enjoyed being reminded of so many lovely and interesting hats both in the blog entry and in the comments. I think I have two favourites: Queen Mathilde’s hat for their inauguration, which is very attractive as well as being unusual and interesting, and Sophie’s peacock hat, because of its wonderful drama, as well as the gorgeous peacock colours.
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/07/21/three-queens-in-belgium/
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/03/31/british-royal-family-celebrates-easter/
The gray fascinator Princess Mary wore for the coronation and to the horse show in Germany is exquisite. It’s the first hat I thought of when I read this post. I have really loved seeing everyone else’s favorite royal hats!
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/06/26/danish-royals-open-chio-2013-in-germany/
I completely forgot about that one! It’s a tie for me between that one and Queen Mathilde’s pink coronation hat.
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/07/21/three-queens-in-belgium/
With 2 coronations this year, there really were some great hats.
Queen Margrethe and that fedora all the way. It’s edgy and really attractive at the same time. Most royal hats are pretty ugly.
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/05/01/danish-queen-and-princess-celebrate-dema/
The Queen’s hat for the celebration of the 60th anniversary of her coronation was the grandest hat this year.
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/06/04/british-royals-celebrate-coronation/
I LOVE Maxima’s orange hat with her orange sun dress.
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/09/02/queen-maxima-kicks-off-fall-term/
Hands down the best royal hat this year was Beatrice Boromeo
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/09/21/luxembourg-royal-wedding-royal-guests/
But since she’s not officially royal I have to go with Princess Letizia and Princess Victoria. Their hats were epic.
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/04/30/dutch-enthronement-crown-princesses/
I totally forgot Sophie and Marie-Chantal.
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/03/31/british-royal-family-celebrates-easter/
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/04/17/the-queen-attends-thatcher-funeral/
I can’t choose just one hat. I have 5 favorites.
Princess Benedikte’s pink one https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/08/04/princess-benedikte-opens-rose-festival/
Queen Margaretta’s blue one https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/09/03/danish-royal-couple-cruise-to-skagen-and-laeso/
Queen Beatrix’s pink and silver hat https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/10/05/guests-at-the-bourbon-parma-wedding/
And Queen Maxima’s pink hat last week https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/11/22/dutch-king-and-queen-arrive-in-colombia/
If I had to pick one tho I think it is Queen Elizabeth’s blue lace hat. I think this is her best hat this year and one of her best hats of all time.
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/06/15/british-royals-celebrate-trooping-of-the-colour/
I was going to pick Queen Elizabeth’s lace hat but I think her pink hat with the big rose takes the crown for me.
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/10/29/the-queen-and-duchess-of-cornwall-visit-riding-centre/
And I forgot about that gorgeous pink hat! Can I change my mind and choose this one instead?
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/10/29/the-queen-and-duchess-of-cornwall-visit-riding-centre/
Of course! We are all allowed fickle taste when it comes to hats!
My favourite two hats were worn by Princess Benedikte. I have chosen them because they are a flattering hats that would look good on any woman, especially a more mature woman. They are interesting to look at and look beautiful on the person wearing them.
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/04/23/princess-benedikte-in-esbjerg/
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/12/03/princess-benedikte-celebrates-care-home-anniversary/
I narrowed it down to four hats.
Queen Elizabeth https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/10/29/the-queen-and-duchess-of-cornwall-visit-riding-centre/
Hereditary Grand Duchess Stephanie https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/06/24/luxembourg-royal-family-celebrates-national-day/
Queen Maxima https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/11/22/dutch-king-and-queen-arrive-in-colombia/
Princess Benedikte https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/06/26/danish-royals-open-chio-2013-in-germany/
They are in the order that I liked them so Queen Elizabeth’s hat is my favorite. I love everything about this hat. It is so beautiful and looks divine on Her Majesty!
I just found another hat I like…so now I have a top five!!
Princess Beatrice https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/06/01/british-royals-attend-epsom-races/
Rodney, whenever I read your comments I wonder how you can possibly be reading my mind! Your top 3 are also my top 3. The other hat in my top 4 is Queen Mathilde’s inauguration hat.
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/10/29/the-queen-and-duchess-of-cornwall-visit-riding-centre/
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/06/24/luxembourg-royal-family-celebrates-national-day/
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/11/22/dutch-king-and-queen-arrive-in-colombia/
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/07/21/three-queens-in-belgium/
Lady Louise, it is probably because we both have such good taste! 🙂 It was hard choosing my favorite hats, but I already know, which hats are going to make my least favorite list. (one of them was hard to erase from my mind) yikes! I also like Queen Mathilde’s inauguration hat so maybe I now have a sixth hat to add to my list. HatQueen do we have a limit? 🙂
No limit- you can cite as many favourites as you wish! I realize the rules here are rather flexible but it’s all about loving the hats!
I have thought about this all day and concluded that no hat made as big a fashion statement as the Countess of Wessex’s hat at Ascot. Perfection. https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/06/19/ascot-day-2/
Fabulosity. Perfection. Best hat of the year.
I can’t believe no one picked Autumn’s hat.
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/06/20/ascot-day-3/
Every time I see Kate in her curled ribbon straw beret I have serious hat envy and it makes me smile! That’s my fave.
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/04/21/duchess-of-cambridge-reviews-scouts/
I think that’s my favorite this year because it’s the one I want most for myself!
What fun!!! This is so difficult. I would like to have chosen ten best hats but have reduced it to three that I just cannot decide between
The Countess of Wessex at Ascot https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/06/19/ascot-day-2/
Queen Mathilde at her enthronement https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/07/21/three-queens-in-belgium/
and Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein at the races in her striking black and white hat. https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/06/01/more-royals-at-the-races/
The Countess of Wessex has worn some fantastic hats during the year including the Blue Peacock.
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/03/31/british-royal-family-celebrates-easter/
Queen Mathilde’s hats are always carefully chosen to go with her outfits and even though we don’t see much of Princess Haya except at Ascot she always makes a splash with her hats.
I have looked at this over and over and these are the 3 hats I just can’t choose between (also with Sophie’s blue peacock hat so I have to go with a top 4). They are all the best of 2013.
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/06/19/ascot-day-2/
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/07/21/three-queens-in-belgium/
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/06/01/more-royals-at-the-races/
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/03/31/british-royal-family-celebrates-easter/
I agree. These 4 are all very beautiful hats and I can not choose a winner!
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/06/19/ascot-day-2/
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/07/21/three-queens-in-belgium/
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/06/01/more-royals-at-the-races/
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/03/31/british-royal-family-celebrates-easter/
I have narrowed down to two hats and I can’t choose between them. I love these two pink hats that Queen Elizabeth wore.
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/06/17/the-queen-awards-the-queens-cup/
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/10/22/upstaging-the-theatre-folk/
I could go for your second example, the new pink for the old three-piece suit from 2005 (and before?). The brim’s shape is magnificent, and the plumage makes a dramatic effect.
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/10/22/upstaging-the-theatre-folk/
I think these pink hats with feathers are my favorites this year too.
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/06/17/the-queen-awards-the-queens-cup/
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/10/22/upstaging-the-theatre-folk/
I want to change my vote to the pink hat with the large rose
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/10/29/the-queen-and-duchess-of-cornwall-visit-riding-centre/
Some of the hat’s chosen here look costumey and too dramatic. The one I like best is this one
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/10/29/the-queen-and-duchess-of-cornwall-visit-riding-centre/
I also like the purple one Queen Elizabeth wore in the photo up top.
I swoon for a pillbox and the best one this year was the one Queen Mathilde wore last week.
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/12/02/belgian-royal-couple-visits-luxembourg/
I also really liked the pillbox with the woven diamond pattern that Queen Paola wore for Prince Philipp’s coronation.
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/07/21/three-queens-in-belgium/
My favorite hats are the classic straw garden hats with big brims. The best ones this year were
Lady Frederick Windsor https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/08/05/birthday-of-lady-frederick-windsor/
Princess Claire https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/07/21/belgium-national-day-the-rest-of-the-family/
Archduchess Anna-Gabriele https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/09/21/luxembourg-royal-wedding-royal-guests/
Queen Maxima https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/11/18/dutch-king-and-queen-visit-curacao/
Queen Maxima https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/09/05/dutch-royal-couple-open-exhibition/
Queen Maxima https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/01/22/dutch-royals-visit-brunei-day-2/
and the best? Queen Maxima. https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/05/30/dutch-royals-continue-inauguration-tour/
YES YES YES! Now THIS is the best hat of 2013.
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/05/30/dutch-royals-continue-inauguration-tour/
I have a tie between this hat of Queen Maxima and the hat Queen Mathilde wore for her enthronement as Queen. They are both very beautiful hats.
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/05/30/dutch-royals-continue-inauguration-tour/
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/07/21/three-queens-in-belgium/
I liked this hat very much. My other favourites this year were Lady Gabriella’s hat and Queen Mathilde’s hat.
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/06/15/trooping-of-the-colour-continued/
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/07/21/three-queens-in-belgium/
Queen Mathilde’s hat at the enthronement ceremony is breathtaking and is followed very closely by Sophie’s Easter hat worn with the fabulous (and somewhat daring) Roland Mouret suit.
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/07/21/three-queens-in-belgium/
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/03/31/british-royal-family-celebrates-easter/
I agree that Queen Mathilde’s coronation hat is the best of the year.
Yes, Queen Mathilde’s enthronement hat is the one hat this year that left me speechless (in a good way).
I think the best hat was Catherine’s hat at the palace garden party. It is petite and elegant but very unusual.
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/05/22/british-royals-host-palace-garden-party/
Kate’s black beret
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/11/11/remembrance-day-2/
Princess Haya 100%
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/06/01/more-royals-at-the-races/
That’s also my favorite.
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/06/01/more-royals-at-the-races/
Princess Hayas hat was the best in 2013
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/06/01/more-royals-at-the-races/
No one wears a hat quite like the Duchess of Cornwall.
Favourite headpiece: https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/04/30/dutch-enthronement-crown-princesses/
Favourite hat: https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/03/21/duchess-of-cornwall-in-canterbury/
The purple hat of Camilla here is a very beautiful hat. It is my choice for 2013 favourite.
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/03/21/duchess-of-cornwall-in-canterbury/
My favorite hat this year was Catherine’s black Whitely beret.
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/12/03/who-wore-it-best-december-poll/
Me too. I also really like her black straw hat.
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/06/13/duchess-of-cambridge-christens-cruise-ship/
Its absolutely impossible to list just one hat without even giving me categories! My top three are: Sophie at the races twice, and Letizia at the Dutch Enthronement.
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/06/21/ascot-day-4/
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/06/19/ascot-day-2/
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/04/30/dutch-enthronement-crown-princesses/
I have never commented here before but I love this blog and read it every day after work. I have to also vote for Sophie’s hat at Ascot. When I saw it the first time I was speechless it’s so amazing.
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/06/19/ascot-day-2/
Oh I shall have fun researching this! 😀
Moi Aussi!
My favorite hat is the small white pillbox with fur that Queen Margrethe wore. It is such and elegant winter hat. https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/04/04/danish-royal-family-host-finnish-state-visit/
My runner up favourite hats are two woren by Princess Beatrix. First a beautiful silver hat.
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/05/31/princess-beatrix-attends-awards-gala-and-opens-museum/
The second is the purple and blue hat Princess Beatrix wore in Singapore.
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/01/24/dutch-royals-visit-singapore-day-3/
I never saw that one but she looks like a beautiful winter queen. I vote that 4 my favorite. And the Queen’s pink flower hat.
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/10/29/the-queen-and-duchess-of-cornwall-visit-riding-centre/
My favorite hat this year was Princess Victoria of Sweden at the King Willem’s coronation in April. She looked amazing.
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/04/30/dutch-enthronement-crown-princesses/
That was my favorite hat too.
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/04/30/dutch-enthronement-crown-princesses/
That’s a total no brainer. Vic rocked that hat.
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/04/30/dutch-enthronement-crown-princesses/
I also loved CP Victoria’s hat and outfit at the Dutch enthronement. I have to admit that I love Victoria in just about anything.
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/04/30/dutch-enthronement-crown-princesses/
That hat is da bomb. My fave for 2013.
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/04/30/dutch-enthronement-crown-princesses/
I love a dramatic royal hat and Victoria’s delivered. My other ‘top’ hats were The Countess of Wessex’s Easter and Ascot hats
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/04/30/dutch-enthronement-crown-princesses/
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/03/31/british-royal-family-celebrates-easter/
https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/06/19/ascot-day-2/
Oh, well…..I started out thinking I’d just give P. Beatrice an honorable mention for that mustard beret with that lovely feather and then pick out another, but once I started paging through the months, I was struck by a number of her milinery choices. First the said beret at Easter, then I thought the hat she wore in May for HM garden party was quite flattering https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/05/30/garden-party-at-buckingham-palace/. And wasn’t there a very flattering cloche sometime during the year? And I liked her choice for the service celebrating the Jubilee. And there was an intriguing pheasant feather on that poor shot of her at Balmoral. Girl can wear a hat, I’d say. I think her hat sophistication is improving and her hat rep should be on the upswing and she can fully leave the toilet seat in the past.
Sigh.
So hard to pick a fav tho. I guess I would pick HM’s pink Rachel Trevor Morgan topper from her event with Cams in October. Or maybe back to that beret………
I think the cloche you are referring to was at the Epsom Races in June. https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/06/01/british-royals-attend-epsom-races/
Here is the hat she wore to the Coronation Jubilee. https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/06/04/british-royals-celebrate-coronation/
And finally I think this is Queen Elizabeth’s pink hat you referred to: https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/10/29/the-queen-and-duchess-of-cornwall-visit-riding-centre/
Thanks for posting the links. I find doing so awkward on my tablet. Having slept on it, I’m going with B’s beret. Unexpected yet coordinated with her outfit.

That cloche that Beatrice wore is so pretty.
I think the best hat this year was this purple flowered one that Grand Duchess Maria Theresa wore. It’s a hat extravaganza!

That hat will be on my list of least favorites. I think it is silly for a mature woman.

Sophie, Countess of Wessex in Jane Taylor either at the 60th Anniversary of the coronation https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/06/04/british-royals-celebrate-coronation/ or at the Easter service https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/03/31/british-royal-family-celebrates-easter/. I loved the simplicity of the former and the boldness of the latter.
Sophie also wore this to the Sovereign’s Parade in August. It is a stunning hat indeed!

My favorite is the lilac hat wore by Lady Gabriella Windsor (Hat #7). Hat made by Philip Treacy. I would wear this hat:)

That is my favorite hat also

Me too! Have looked through lots of posts but this is so elegant…

That is also my favourite hat!

That hat is so beautiful. I like a lot of the other dramatic ones but I couldn’t ever wear any of them. This hat I would love to wear.

Kate’s hat for George’s christening in October.

Or, the pink hat Kate wore to Queen Elizabeth’s Coronation Jubilee celebration in June. This is such a beautiful hat

Easy. Queen Mathilde’s enthronement hat. Prettiest thing ever.

I will agree. I love Queen Mathilde’s hats and had a hard time choosing, so I’ll go with this one.

I completely agree. That hat is wearable art.

That’s my favorite too

While I like looking at the dramatic hats worn by the Countess of Wessex, I wouldn’t describe them as beautiful (dramatic and incredible yes, but not particularly pretty). That’s why I have to choose Queen Mathilde’s hat. It is beautiful beyond words.

Interesting point, Shelo – what is “beautiful”, anyway? Some readers here have described it as they hat they would choose for themselves while others have gone for beauty in an artistic or aesthetic sense. I should have qualified this better!
This hat is quietly elegant and so very beautiful. It is also my favourite royal hat this year.

I have thought about this all weekend (and spent more time than I should have looking back at the hats this year!) and I keep coming back to this hat for all the reasons already listed here. It’s simply a beautiful hat.
