2013 Hat Wrap-Up: Your Favourite Hats This Year

As we come to the end of 2013, the first full calendar year here on The Royal Hats Blog, I want to hear which royal hat this year was your favourite, as well as your least favourite. I also want to hear about what hat or trend relating to royal  hats was most memorable and stood out most this year.

We’re going to start with your favourite. In the comments, tell us which hat was your favourite this year and why. If possible, please include a link to the post here on the Royal Hats Blog that featured that hat so others can link over to see it. I usually don’t edit comment but will add in these links if needed. We’ll keep this conversation going until next Thursday, when we look at our least favourites.

I don’t want to influence your choices but here are some of my favourite royal hats of 2013.Click on each photo to link back to the original post for designer and photo credit information.

  1. From the Netherlands
This is a typical Beatrix cake hat, but I really love the three colors and it is not boring brown at all!

Max can rock a big hat, but I think she should consider wearing this shape more often, it’s very flattering!

and this one on Max is over the top but I can’t help but SQUEE! every time I see it!

  2. Ok, thank god for history records 😀 Rather than risk that again I’ll do a bunch of short posts, thank you for indulging me! HatQueen this is one of my favorite blogs, thank you for all your hard work and happy first year, may the blog continue for as long as you get pleasure from it (which I selfishly hope is long :-D)

There is no way I can pick only one hat, so I broke it down by country. In Great Britain, these are my favorites:
On Queen Elizabeth (Rachel Trevor Morgan is a Master IMO!)

    https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/10/29/the-queen-and-duchess-of-cornwall-visit-riding-centre/
    Camilla in Wellington

Both Sophie and Beatrix at Easter

Autumn Phillips at Ascot as well as Serena Linley’s lovely magenta feathered pillbox that you’ve already pictured

And we can’t forget Harry in his blue beret (swoon!)

    • Before my friend told me about this blog I had never heard of Queen Maxima (or any queens except for Elizabeth) and now I can’t wait to see what hat she’s going to wear next. So I have to vote for all of her hats too because she’s the reason I keep coming back here!

  3. I have to start with Queen Elizabeth. Loved the watermelon color straw hat she wore on Oct. 1

And, at Ascot on June 20 it seemed that everyone had a good hat that day. The Queen’s horse won a race and I loved the reactions and the hats of her granddaughters.

Princess Haya looks good in about every hat she puts on. Also Sophie, Countess of Wessex seems to wear hats very well. I too liked the one she wore at the 60th anniv. Not so sure about the dress though.

I’m a dunce at putting links in. I hope you’ll help me out.

  4. I’ve really enjoyed being reminded of so many lovely and interesting hats both in the blog entry and in the comments. I think I have two favourites: Queen Mathilde’s hat for their inauguration, which is very attractive as well as being unusual and interesting, and Sophie’s peacock hat, because of its wonderful drama, as well as the gorgeous peacock colours.

  5. I can’t choose just one hat. I have 5 favorites.
    Princess Benedikte’s pink one https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/08/04/princess-benedikte-opens-rose-festival/
    Queen Margaretta’s blue one https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/09/03/danish-royal-couple-cruise-to-skagen-and-laeso/
Queen Beatrix’s pink and silver hat https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/10/05/guests-at-the-bourbon-parma-wedding/
And Queen Maxima’s pink hat last week https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/11/22/dutch-king-and-queen-arrive-in-colombia/

If I had to pick one tho I think it is Queen Elizabeth’s blue lace hat. I think this is her best hat this year and one of her best hats of all time.

  6. I narrowed it down to four hats.
    Queen Elizabeth https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/10/29/the-queen-and-duchess-of-cornwall-visit-riding-centre/
    Hereditary Grand Duchess Stephanie https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/06/24/luxembourg-royal-family-celebrates-national-day/
    Queen Maxima https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/11/22/dutch-king-and-queen-arrive-in-colombia/
    Princess Benedikte https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/06/26/danish-royals-open-chio-2013-in-germany/

They are in the order that I liked them so Queen Elizabeth’s hat is my favorite. I love everything about this hat. It is so beautiful and looks divine on Her Majesty!

  7. What fun!!! This is so difficult. I would like to have chosen ten best hats but have reduced it to three that I just cannot decide between
The Countess of Wessex at Ascot https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/06/19/ascot-day-2/
Queen Mathilde at her enthronement https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/07/21/three-queens-in-belgium/
and Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein at the races in her striking black and white hat. https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/06/01/more-royals-at-the-races/
The Countess of Wessex has worn some fantastic hats during the year including the Blue Peacock.
    https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/03/31/british-royal-family-celebrates-easter/
Queen Mathilde’s hats are always carefully chosen to go with her outfits and even though we don’t see much of Princess Haya except at Ascot she always makes a splash with her hats.

  8. Oh, well…..I started out thinking I’d just give P. Beatrice an honorable mention for that mustard beret with that lovely feather and then pick out another, but once I started paging through the months, I was struck by a number of her milinery choices. First the said beret at Easter, then I thought the hat she wore in May for HM garden party was quite flattering https://royalhats.wordpress.com/2013/05/30/garden-party-at-buckingham-palace/. And wasn’t there a very flattering cloche sometime during the year? And I liked her choice for the service celebrating the Jubilee. And there was an intriguing pheasant feather on that poor shot of her at Balmoral. Girl can wear a hat, I’d say. I think her hat sophistication is improving and her hat rep should be on the upswing and she can fully leave the toilet seat in the past.

    Sigh.

So hard to pick a fav tho. I guess I would pick HM’s pink Rachel Trevor Morgan topper from her event with Cams in October. Or maybe back to that beret………
