Duke of Edinburgh Presents Service Medals

Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, presented the Afghanistan Operational Service Medals Parade to forty Commando Royal Marines at Norton Manor Camp in Taunton yesterday. As Captain General Royal Marines, he wore the combat uniform and beret of this rank. He looks quite handsome in uniform at age 92, doesn’t he?

Princess Clothilde at Cannes

Princess Clotilde of Savoy, the Princess of Venice & Piedmont, attended the premiere of “The Great Gatsby” today at the opening of the Cannes Film Festival. She accessorized her amazing Elie Saab gown with a bejeweled fasincator headband. While most starlets choose sparkly earrings, I love that Clothilde eschewed jewellery in favour of a fascinator. That’s a girl after my own heart!

What do you think of this fascinator? Should she have chosen diamond earrings instead?

Queen Recognizes Recipients of the Order of Merit

Queen Elizabeth and Prince Charles attended a service for members of the Order of Merit at the Chapel Royal, at St. James’ Palace yesterday (Charles is greeting his mother in the awkward photo below). The Queen repeated a mint green straw hat with feather trim designed by Rachel Trevor Morgan. Paired with an elegantly simple coat dress, I thought this was a fantastic look for her. What do you think of the Queen in this minty fresh hat?

Birthday of Zara Tindall

The British Royal Family celebrates another birthday today, the thirty-second birthday of Zara Tindall. Daughter of Princess Anne and granddaughter of Queen Elizabeth, Zara has maintained a high public profile not as a royal, but as a world-class eventing competitor (she was part of the silver medal winning team at the London Olympics last year). While we see Zara most often in jodhpurs or jeans, she sometimes attends more formal events and wows us with a millinery style as bold and unique as she is. When she turned up at the Cheltenham festival in March 2012 in this magnificent magenta saucer beret with larger-than-life bow, she stole the show. A royal with drive, determination, and fearless style – what’s not to love?!

Prince Harry Visits America

Prince Harry has been touring the USA this week, highlighting a number of programs in support of injured service personnel from the UK and US forces. With this theme for the tour, Harry has donned his British Army uniform on two legs of the tour so far. Last Thursday, he appeared in full ceremonial uniform at Arlington National Cemetery where he laid a wreath with a handwritten note honoring fellow soldiers.

On Saturday, Harry wore his combat uniform for the Opening Ceremony of the Warrior Games in Colorado Springs, Colorado.  You’ll note the hat is the same for both uniforms. He wears it quite well, doesn’t he?
