Queen Máxima Opens Campus Hoogvliet

Queen Máxima of the Netherlands opened Campus Hoogvliet, a new educational and cultural area located on the southern edge of Rotterdam, this morning. For this event, she repeated a hat we have not seen in six years – a hat with a tall, pointed diagonal shaped crown and diagonal brim edged in royal blue trim to match her coat. I am afraid I am not a fan of this hat- it is too matchy-matchy with her coat and the shape of the too-tall crown looks cartoonish to me. I think this is one of those times when simpler would have been much better. What do you think of this hat?

  1. The overall effect is a housecoat with a bit of brown trim – but I admire the bold try to merge the two colours. The hat works – needs something different with the coat.

  2. I really like that combination… Seems like I’m the only one. I think the reverse colours work out great! …and I want that coat. 😉

  3. Hm, not my favourite, but somehow I don’t think the hat is the problem… I quite like it. I think there is toomuch going on here, but if you imagine the coat with just one element of brown, say the collar, and not the cuffs and without a tie belt (or just a plain navy one) then the whole effect would be much more streamlined and the hat would work better, I feel.

  4. Dreadful color combination for sure, and your right, to matchy-matchy. The hat was way to tall for her, she is tall and that made her look like she was above the crowd…………not good. If the coat had been without the brown collar, brown belt, and brown cuffs, it might have gone with the hat if the hat was smaller…………..what was she thinking or was she even thinking!

  5. I thoroughly dislike the color combination and agree that the hat is cartoonish. Nonetheless, for some reason, I love it!

  6. The crown is too tall and the hosiery too brown! It’s Spring for crying out loud! If she feels she should wear pantyhose then make it nude.

  7. How considerate of her to wear a hat large enough that everyone who was there can say “I saw the Queen”. She’s worn better, not one of my favorites, but how thoughtful of her.
