Dutch Monarchs Visit Achterhoek

King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima of the Netherlands visited the region of Achterhoek in the province of Gelderland. Máxima debuted a new blush pink hat that at first glance, looked like a ruched toque.

With Queen Máxima, however, one needs to take a second glance.

And at second glance, I’m afraid this headpiece looks like a large bandage wrapped around her head. I went from loving this hat to the exact opposite in less than 4 seconds. What about you?

  1. The hat would be better if it was closed at the top, like it looks like it should be. Otherwise, I have no complaints about her attire. I really like her outfits including the somewhat zany ones, like the green dress. Otherwise she would be boring and that I don’t like!

  2. Oh Maxima, let me be your stylist! I read Royal Hats before I go to bed and then lie there plotting how I would have done things. She is so attractive with such a beautiful smile and a lovely figure that it wouldn’t be hard to dress her.
Yes, Mr Fitzroy is right, about the green evening dress. At first I was looking only at the top half, thinking “well it’s different, but not so bad” and then I pulled the screen down, eek. It was three-quarter length and, I may be mis-remembering, but were there feathers? Oh Maxima, let me be your stylist.

  3. Is this the same designer ace bandage that she wore a few months back, or is this one different, while being exactly the same? Once is a fluke, twice is tragic.
For some real comedy relief, check out the green evening gown she wore the other night…recycling one from the 1980s depths of Queen/Princess Bea’s back closet.
The girl does have moxie…just not always good moxie.

  4. I do not like the hat nor outfit either.
I believe both bouquets are sweet peas. They smell heavenly!

  5. Horrible hat. Again — open top. Again — hat too close in color to hair color. Máxima is consistent in her recent fashion taste! She really does need to wear hats that look good for more than 4 seconds.

  6. That piece sticking out over her ear makes it even worse. It’s like the whole contraption is wired so she make it different shapes – but this time she forgot to tuck the end in. Also, the skirt does not belong with this outfit. I’m all for her wearing daring and fashion forward clothes that reflect her personality but this looks like she got dressed in the dark.

  7. I don’t care for the hat, I like the shape of the dress.

I LOVE the pink-and-cream bouquet. Does anyone know what the flowers are? This look like a perfect wedding bouquet to me.

      • Thanks, I didn’t know these flowers. I don’t think they are popular in my country (but I’m not really a flower person). I will take a look.

  8. The Colour is not for her with that hair colour. Cannot tell the hair from the hat. Cannot help but wonder the cost of all of her vast wardrobe. It’s good for the economy but there are many charities who need some of it.
Princess Ann seems more resourceful but not sure if any of her savings go to charity either.

  9. It only took me two seconds to say “No”! Skirt, blouse, high heels, ‘head bandage” and big juicy earring. Bizarre.

  10. I love Queen Maxima but I have to say this hat is HORRIBLE! I wonder why she persists with this style – someone must have told her it suits her…….
