Queen Máxima Sprouts a New Hat

Queen Máxima officially opened new facilities for a Dutch company in Haaksbergen, Eastern Netherlands, yesterday. For this event, she debuted a new hat from Fabienne Delvigne’s 2014 summer collection. It’s a crazy hat that I love on Queen Máxima because I can’t think of another royal head who could carry it like she does. Perhaps the pairing with the green dress is a little much (both in terms of hue and literal interpretation of a plant) but I supposed if you’re going to go bold with this hat, you’ve got to pair it with an outfit that will hold its own. I just wish she had ditched the earrings. I can’t wait to hear all of your opinions weigh in on this hat!

  1. Love the hat! Under certain photos the earrings were intense! Huge in fact, but ultimately I feel this is a Maxima home run! She can just go more bold than anyone else ––– I just expect it from her!

  2. I think this hat is unreal…….as in Awesome!! A return to the Maxima that we all know and love! A reason for that, I believe, is the sheer simplicity of design- no embellishments, added bits, changes in colour, blah blah, just a swathe of material and an audacious confidence in one’s creativity. Oh and a woman willing to wear it in the manner in which it was intended. Look at Maxima’s expression – she knows she got it right this time, maybe she’s been reading our comments….. Go Girl!

  3. Like this hat – her earrings often seem like she is calling out to the early-mid70s. But that’s OK if it’s your thing or she is trying hard to start her own trend thing – she seems to pull out a lot of 70s inspired earrings.

  4. I think it could be great with the right outfit. And minus the earrings. With this pair she only seems to be lacking fruit for a full-on Carmen Miranda impersonation.

    • Meant to also say that I think Sophie Wessex could handle this one. I seem to recall her in a black one with similar shape.

  5. Humour by accident? Is a tulip in the future? Not sure what the Queen is trying to project lately. I pass. Wish there was a better picture though.

    • I just saw the hat in the model picture. That I like. Not sure about the green dress etc. it does seem a bit humorous. Like to see another picture.

  6. Its nice to see a hat inspired by a leaf rather than the multitude of trimmed feathers. I hope to see more of this kind of hat, because I think the plant world can offer an endless variety of shapes and colours for inspiration, and is at yet little explored. (I will say though that the acorn hat is a bit too literal.)
