Queen Mathilde of Belgiumattended the awards ceremony for winners of the 2014 Queen Elisabeth Singing Competition today in Waterloo, Belgium. For this event, Mathilde wore a circlet of ecru rose petals. I thought this new headpiece was unexpected and added a very pretty feminine touch to her pinky beige cotton lace dress. What do you think of this piece?

Lovely. Suits her very well. I don’t think that it would have worked in a different colour.
By chance, I just went through the poll section, and in the August 2013 poll, Queen Maxima (state visit to Qatar, March 10, 2011) seems to wear a quite similar headpiece just upside down – what do you think?
In addition, I think Queen Maxima wore it recently to a theater event. See link: http://robinutrecht.photoshelter.com/gallery-image/Koningin-Maxima-in-theater-De-Spiegel/G0000q2LVukT4xCU/I00008vF2lX23Boo/C000032_1oVgQGEg
Thank you for the link! Wonderful the way queen Mathilda wears it, very elegant. Don’t like it so much worn on top of the head and also less fitting for queen Maxima, me thinks!
I agree, I love it on Queen Mathilda, it’s a nice feminine simple look, and it sits nicely at the back of the head with just a glimpse from the front, but on Queen Maxima who wore it all at the front, it is just too much and too twee. I think I’ll make one for myself, it should be easy to do, but I’ll definitely wear it at the back of my head.
Both headpieces were made by Fabienne Delvigne. I don’t think they are identical (one side of Mathilde’s headpiece looks to have a double row of petals) but they are very similar!
I think it is great! Very elegant and there is free sight of her face. Just wonder how they fix it in her hair? Probably a lot of hairpins and clips.
I think the head piece looks lovely.
This is lovely trim for a hat. . .but where is the hat? It’s a lovely concept, but in the execution it is sadly lacking.
From the front I thought this headpiece looked lovely and discrete and very feminine….and then I saw the side and back view. I’m sorry but it just reminds me of the olive wreaths the winning athletes were bedecked with at the Athens 1996 Olympics. Too circular, too much. Nice concept, gorgeous colour, just not circular please. Just my opinion! Thanks.
I do like it but I think if it was smaller and less circular, as you suggest, then it could have been a winner. I’m definitely going to make something similar for myself as I was quite inspired by it, and by the color, but I won’t go the Olympic headpiece route.
From the back, it looks nice. The rose petals of the headpiece go beautifully with the pattern of the lace in the dress.
Like it! I think in any other color it would be too twee.
I love the look of it, even though the beige is a little unfortunate (too close to skin tone).
She seems to like these types of hats. She also has that one that looks like a swath of fabric pinned to her head. They aren’t my favorite type of hat but Mathilde makes everything look elegant.
This may just be the prettiest headpiece I have ever seen! I simply love it.
I read Waterloo in the caption, there was a recent music festival here and I thought surely she was not here…then I saw the country. Thanks for the huh moment.
I do like her entire outfit. The colour in turn does offer her colour even though it is beige. I am not sure it is a hat in the true sense. However , I like it.
