Last Friday, Queen Margrethe and Prince Henrik of Denmark enjoyed the third and final day of the first leg of their annual summer cruise with a stop in Marstal. Margrethe repeated her natural straw hat, this time trimmed with a red and black plaid band around the crown in the same fabric as her skirt. The hat is quite fine but that band… I think it needs to be sliced in two. It would be so much prettier if it was half as wide as it is now, don’t you think?

Previously Worn (with plaid band): September 3, 2013; August 29, 2013; June 4, 2013; and June 9, 2011
Previously Worn (with green band): April 28, 2013; August 30, 2013; and September 5, 2012
Queen Margrethe and Prince Henrick will board the Royal Yacht Dannebrog again September for a second, five-day cruise. We will certainly cover the hats during this leg of the summer cruise at that time.

Perhaps just one of the colors from the skirt and a bit narrower band would be more to my liking.
Hmm, I’m not sure I agree. Picturing it with the band only half the width, I think that would turn it into just a pretty informal summer straw with a decorative band. Whereas with the band this width, to me it makes it seem more a part of the structure and gives it added gravitas. I know the cruise is perhaps less formal than some engagements, but she is meeting a mayor with a chain!
Good point. How about 1/3 less the width it is now?! That would still give it some formality without the band being the total focal point.
I think the band is just right as it is. It’s a sharp looking hat.
