Swedish Royals Sparkle at Benefit

Members of the Swedish Royal Family attended a benefit dinner last night for the World Childhood Foundation, which was founded by Queen Silvia. Crown Princess Victoria accessorized her black lace gown with a faux jewelled headpiece. The Swedish royal women often integrate jewels into their evening hairstyles and this oversize piece, worn almost as a fascinator, added much sparkle to Princess Victoria’s ensemble. While I’m not feeling amorous toward fascinators in general these days, I will never turn away a fascinator with diamonds! What do you think of this creative royal headpiece?

Fall 2014 in Royal Hats

Royal HatsBack in August, we took a peek at the recently released Autumn/Winter 2014 hat collections from Gina Foster and Rachel Trevor Morgan. Here is another beautiful new collection from popular royal hat designer, Jane Taylor.

Designer: Jane Taylor Autumn Winter 2014
Synopsis: While the collection includes sculpted discs, large saucers, and a mix of hat shapes (in addition to the pillbox and fedora above, there is a turban and a wide headband), it is anchored by Taylor’s signature beret-base cocktail hats. There is a mix of materials- straw, beaded silk, velvet and lace- although most of the collection is in velour felt. Black, navy and purple predominate with hits of olive, forest green and burgundy. In contrast to the dark hues is trim with lots of sparkle, making the collection reminiscent of a clear sky on a cold winter night. It is glamorous, sparkling and chic
Royals likely to wear these designs:  Certainly, the Countess of Wessex (she wore a bespoke, summery version of the Topaz hat at Ascot ). Grand Duchess Maria Teresa, the Duchess of Cambridge and Zara Phillips also regularly turn to Jane Taylor for hats. I think the Monel would be lovely on Hereditary Grand Duchess Stéphanie and I would love to see one of the young British royals wear the Shooting Star (top left) for Christmas.

Are there any hats here that tickle your fancy?

Princess Michael at Concours of Elegance

Princess Michael of Kent attended the Concours of Elegance show of rare historic cars yesterday at Hampton Court Palace. She is seen here with this year’s best of show, a 1931 Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 Touring ‘Flying Star’ in a white bucket hat with cream band around the crown. It is not a memorable hat and is not particularly flattering on Marie-Christine but fit the vintage tone of this event. I wonder- do you think Princess Michael was tipped off by event organizers so she could match her ensemble to the winning auto?!

British Royals Attend Braemar Gathering

Queen Elizabeth, the Duke of Edinburgh and the Prince of Wales attended the Braemar Games today in Scotland. For this traditional Scottish sporting  event, The Queen repeated her cream and gold split crown hat with black and gold feather trim. Texturally speaking, this hat is so pretty and I really like how the black and gold feathers coordinate with the ruffled trim on her coat. It is the perfect outfit for a heather bouquet (presented to Her Majesty every year at this event) and I must admit, I wonder if that ever factors into the royal pondering of “What shall I wear today…?”

Final Day of Danish Summer Cruise

For the final stop today on the 2014 summer tour aboard the royal yacht Dannebrog, Queen Margrethe and Prince Henrik sailed to Vesthimmerlands Kommune. For their trip ashore to the town of Aars, Queen Margrethe repeated the red straw hat with daisy trim, nautical flag printed dress and red blazer we saw her wear in Ringkøbing on Wednesday. We have seen this hat enough times that there is nothing new to add… I suppose the only thing to say is how fun it is to see the royal couple clearly having a marvelous time.
