Princess Anne and Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence are in Canada this week for a brief visit. Yesterday, they took part in Ottawa’s Remembrance Day ceremony and rededicated the Canadian National Ware Memorial. Princess Anne braved the cold weather in her much loved fur toque, worn back on the crown of her head. It’s a signature look for The Princess Royal that worked well for this event.

On November 10, the royal couple were officially welcomed to Canada at a formal ceremony at Rideau Hall, the home of the Governor General. For this welcome and military review, Princess Anne topped her patterned coat with a pale gray-green trilby hat in brushed wool. We all know that when it comes to fashion, Princess Anne is more pragmatic than most princesses; I thought the trilby shape was a practical choice that did not compromise on style or beauty. It’s a great hat for this hard working princess, don’t you think?

She looks great, good choices for the occasions and I’m sure Canadians will enjoy and appreciate her presence so soon after their recent tragedy and security scares.
Some items are well worth a constant recycle. Just ask Queen Daisy! I think the Princess Royal looks very well put together and appropriate. Add comfortable and true to herself, to boot! Nicely done. I’m sure we’ll see the trilby for years to come…
Oh, I love both these hats! They look fabulous on her, and I can’t decide which I like best. Possibly the trilby…
I agree, I like both of the hats and both of outfits! The Princess Royal is really stylish this time.
I was there yesterday – I didn’t actually know she was in Canada, so it was a nice surprise to see her (albeit on a screen, plus a fleeting glimpse as she passed us in the car). It was very fitting that someone from the family was there for the re-dedication as her grandfather unveiled the memorial in 1939. By the way, it was a gorgeous day yesterday – we are usually freezing on Remembrance Day!
Thanks for sharing this, Patricia. I suppose Princess Anne is also used to it being freezing in Ottawa in mid November, hence the reason for packing the fur hat!
Best I have ever seen her.
The Princess Royal looks fabulous!! The toque is standard for her in the winter and looks good. The trilby, on the other hand, looks fabulous!!!!! I love it, the second picture with her smile is just stunning. The coat, the hat, I just love it. She works so hard and carries out so many engagements, as does HMQEII, that I am envious that they are so put together. I can barely manage to get out of the house!
The maple leaf pin on the front lapel of the coat is a wonderful touch. Princess Anne is beautiful.
Princess Anne looked really good in both of those hats. The toque isn’t a hat I normally like because I remember the Duchess of York’s toques from the eighties, and I didn’t like the oversized hats. This one is restrained and practical, and I actually like it. The trilby is just so jaunty and cute, and I love it. Both outfits are nicely put together, and practical and she looks very nice. I especially enjoyed seeing this serious and hard working Royal lady smiling and enjoying herself. She has a great sense of humor and fun, although she isn’t always credited for it.
You read my mind jamiemid. I really loved the trilby and the green coat and I would wear it myself.
