Queen Máxima Attends Conference in Amsterdam

Queen Máxima was in Amsterdam today to attend a conference on the quality of school education. She unveiled an interesting new calot hat in khaki green pleated fabric. The hat is clearly made to match her skirt and the colour blocking in this outfit is a modern touch. Yesterday I complained about her dull, neutral ensemble– this is neutral but not dull at all. If I walked into a hat shop, this is not a hat I would choose but I think it’s a good accessory for this outfit. What do you think?

Danish Royals Skiing in Switzerland

Prince Joachim and Princess Marie and their children posed for pictures this morning with their children, Prince Nicolai, Prince Felix, Prince Henrik and Princess Athena. The family is on a skiing holiday in Villars, Switzerland so ski hats and helmets were the order of the day.

Queen Máxima Opens Symposium in Rotterdam

Queen Máxima of The Netherlands opened a symposium on the prevention of obesity for children and adults at the Boijmans van Beuninen museum in Rotterdam today. She wore a mushroom beige-grey wool hat with sharply upturned diagonal brim that we haven’t seen on her in a long time. It was one of her first hats in this shape; it is a great shape for her but I found the monochrome outfit a little dull. What do you think?

Princess Beatrix Opens Conference in Leiden

Princess Beatrix opened a the three-day international conference on Chinese Buddhism and the Scholarship of Erik Zurcher at Leiden University today. She repeated this black straw hat with rolled brim and black patent band around the crown. Last time we saw this hat, I declared my indecision on it (I just can’t get on board with the sides of the crown extending straight up over the rounded top of the crown) and today’s outing doesn’t help. What do you think?

Princess Alexandra Makes Centenary Visit to Ribble Valley

Princess Alexandra visited Black Moss, Thornley yesterday to celebrate and repeat the visit her great grandmother, Queen Alexandra, made exactly 100 years before. Princess Alexandra planted a horse chestnut tree (just as Queen Alexandra did) and attended a charity lunch in her honour. For this historic engagement, Alexandra wore a velvet hat trimmed in fur. It is a similar hat to ones we have seen on the Duchess of Cornwall but somehow, Alexandra looks elegant and polished. After an extended sick leave last year, it is lovely to see her looking so well.
