King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of Belgium paid a one day official visit to France today.
Queen Mathilde topped her new 1950s sillouetted pink coat with a simple pink felt calot hat.
The star of this outfit is the bow on the coat and the unembellished hat balanced the whole ensemble. The look is classic and elegant, although a little sweet for my taste.

If given the choice, I would have preferred the wow factor on the hat but the whole outfit works well, don’t you think?

Princess Marie of Denmark celebrates her 38th birthday today. French born Princess Marie is not what you would call a prolific hat wearer and tends to favour small straw berets, pillboxes or headband fascinators hats. While I was tempted to choose a traditional French cloche for Marie, I think she would look wonderful in a small percher hat like this one designed by Australian milliner Marilyn Van der Berg. The shape is perfect for a petite princess, the net overlay gives a decidedly modern touch, and the feather would add some much needed height to Marie- all while exuding a very chic French feel.
Crown Princess Mary of Denmark celebrates her 42nd birthday today. While Mary’s millinery partnership with Danish designer Susanne Juul has been very successful, I would love to see her break out of her streamlined aesthetic and have more fun with hats. I would also love to see her showcase some Australian designers. The hat I would love to see on Crown Princess Mary is this apricot straw pillbox with curled bow, designed by Australian milliner Greer McDonald. It’s a fun hat that I think would be marvelous on Mary.
