Swedish Monarchs Support Artists

On Monday King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia attended an annual celebration of Swedish art at Waldemarsudde, home of the late Prince Eugene. Prince Eugene,  an accomplished landscape painter in his own right, created a Swedish Artists’ Support Fund Foundation in 1937 and Monday’s festivities were in support of this fund. For this event, which also saw the royal couple place flowers at Prince Eugene’s grave, Queen Silvia repeated the turquoise straw pillbox she wore for the King’s Ruby Jubilee.  It’s a great hat for her and together with her printed turquoise silk suit and bouclé coat, makes for a multi textured and vibrant ensemble.

  1. Queen Silvia looked radiant in this turquoise straw pillbox, and it reminded me a lot of the late Jackie Kennedy pillbox look. The Queen has just the right hair and hardo to make these pillboxes work well. It coordinates perfectly with the printed turquoise silk suit and the bouclé coat. As HatQueen said, the multi textured and vibrant ensemble is a great look for this Queen.

  2. Great color, great hat, and great style. HM looks lovely in this color, and she knows how to wear a hat. I like a good pillbox hat, and this is a good one!

  3. I have great fondness for pillbox hats worn like this and it is perfect with her hairstyle. The color doesn’t hurt either! She looks marvelous.
