Princess Beatrix of the Netherlands opened the biennial outdoor sculpture exhibition ARTZUID 2015 yesterday in South Amsterdam. For this event, she repeated a large black straw hat with flat crown and gently raised brim on one side. This hat is simply trimmed with a wide band of patent leather wrapped around the crown which gives textural contrast to the piece. It’s not the most striking of royal hats but with her royal blue ensemble, made for a perfectly fine working ensemble.

As mentioned previously, Princess Beatrix looks lovely in this blue outfit. The style of her hat, however, was not unexpected but definitely is not a style that I find attractive. Very much like the Japanese royal family who consistently wear the same style of hat.
Not my favorite hat but she looks great and has such a sweet face. My mom was named after her so she’s a special princess to me 🙂
This hat has a reasonably good shape, although I don’t like patent leather in hats; it seems too heavy and rigid. I very much like the royal blue outfit, however. It’s a little odd, though, that the hat isn’t a similar blue, but of course it does go with the black shoes and purse. (If Queen Elizabeth followed this theory, we would find that one black hat could accompany every single outfit in her closet, I’m afraid.)
I agree with what Snug Harbor says: May 23, 2015 at 6:48 pm.
Princess Beatrix looks lovely in this shade of blue. I can’t love her huge hats. This one isn’t too bad, as it isn’t as huge as some others she has worn, and as HatQueen stated, the difference in textures adds something more interesting than her usual trims.
