Yesterday morning, Queen Sonja officially opened the annual two-week Bergen Festival of music and theatre. For the opening ceremony, which included several performances from the festival program, she wore a magenta coat and matching pillbox hat. Bright pink can be exceptionally difficult to photograph and I hope it is a photo glitch causing the slight difference of colour between the hat and the coat. If not, I’m afraid I have to take a pass on this ensemble.

Previously Worn: I believe this hat is new. The last time we saw this coat, it was paired with a different hat.
I’m usually fairly forgiving on slightly variations of shade within an ensemble but in this case, I think a closer match was needed. What do you think, dear readers- is this match close enough for you?

Royal Hats 
Love the hat: placement, style, colour. Do not like the hat with this coat, though. Too much pink.
We are definitely looking at two similar, but mis-matched shades of pink here. I don’t care for cape coats, so I am unable to say much in its defense, except that the coat’s shade of pink is good with the Queen’s skin tone. I am not fond of either of the hats worn with this coat.
THIS hat over the other……any day of the week! No contest. I think Sonja looks just fine.
I prefer the shape and placement of this hat to the other one but now I can’t ‘unsee’ that it is not a perfect colour match.
It’s not terrible, but in this photo the colors do not match perfectly. The pillbox is more red-violet, while the coat/cape is definitely a bright fuschia. I just had this conversation today with a customer when she was looking at fascinators: both were pink, but one has a redder hue, while the other had a purplish hue; the same is happening here. I don’t know why, but I loved the previous hat with this coat, so Sonja, please bring that back!
I have a bad feeling that you are correct HatQueen, and Queen Sonja’s coat and pillbox hat are a mismatch. I doubt that they were made together, otherwise you would think she would have worn the matching hat with the coat first time around, which most people do. Then later, after wearing the combination a few times, people try out another hat or different accessories for a change. I like her in this color and I do like the pillbox, but the big buttons on the coat have put me off it a bit.
You had me looking at the previous time Queen Sonja wore the coat with a different hat. The coat is more like a cape and I’m not sure what to make of either the cape or the hat worn in 2012, although the pinks match. In this photo (above), I like the pillbox hat and am still not sure about the coat/cape.
Hard to say without seeing her shoes or dress, but I can see it working if her other clothes coordinate with the hat. It’s not a total clash. Not a fan of those big black buttons on the coat, though. Love the pillbox style of hat.
