Well you know, she was in Australia and a sun hat is pretty important down here, especially with her fair skin. That’s the only redeeming feature I can think of.
But check out those lapels! If that doesn’t date this outfit as 1988 I don’t know what does.
I don’t like this type of hat, Princess Michael of Kent only wore this type of hat some time ago and debuted the hat I mean for the 60th Anniversary of the Coronation Service in June 2013. Not my taste!
The problem is it’s sitting flat on her head. If she put it at a 45 degree angle, it would resemble something we would see today at the races. I think there are definitely worse hats from this era out there.
And so many thought they looked so swell back then! I was a young lady in the 40s and this one kind of reminds me of the 40s if the brim were not so wide.

This hat looks like a sombrero that had the pointy peak cut off. Of course Fergie had to make a bad hat worse by adding a Fergie bow!

The Duchess of York looked very good in purple and brimmed hats suited her well, but not this brim! Not to mention those Fergie bows! Horrible!
It’s just bad.

It’s not the worst 80s royal hat but that brim is bad.
Why, Sarah???
Oh dear……
