Best New Royal Hat of 2015: Denmark

After looking at Belgium’s entries into our Best New Royal Hat of 2015 championship, we’re moving on to Denmark today. While The Danish royals welcomed just a handful of new hats this year, there is considerable variety of colour and style in these pieces. I have omitted three hats from the poll (this casual straw one, Princess Marie’s purple fascinator and Princess Mary’s flower trimmed black hat) for streamlining purposes. Click on any of the photos to jump back to original posts to see additional description and detail of the hats.

A note about voting- the hats with the most votes across this semifinal will move forward to the final face off. If you don’t think any of these hats are worthy of the title of Best of 2015, save your vote (or take another look at the Belgian royal hats).  The next poll will be up on Sunday.

Queen Máxima Presents Prix de Rome

Queen Máxima was at the Appel Arts Centre in Amsterdam today to attend the Prix de Rome award, a scholarship for arts students established in 1663 during the reign of Louis XIV of France. She showed some of her own artistic flair, turning up in a wonderful colour blocked dress topped with her rounded pillbox hat. The simple hat, which is trimmed with a flat, layered bow at the back, was a great counterpoint to the vibrant dress and balanced it beautifully. I love the ensemble (even the costume earrings worked!) and think it is one of Máxima’s best of the year.

Hats From The Past

Royal Hats to a grand event that took place 55 years ago today. With Princess Margaret of Great Britain in a feathered helmet and Princess Paola (as was her title then) of Belgium in a luxe fur pillbox, the glamour at the wedding of King Baudouin and Fabiola de Mora y Aragón was palpable.

Best New Royal Hat of 2015: Belgium

As we are half way through December, it’s time to look back over all the royal hats we have seen this year and name our favourites. This year, we’re going to focus on all the new hats we saw- we’ll look back by country then bring forward our favourites to face off for the title of Best New Royal Hat of 2015.

We’re going to start today with all the hats débuted this year on Belgian royal heads. I’m exercising my editorial powers by not including Queen Mathilde’s open crowned hats (this one and this one), this nondescript calot and a certain pair of antlers. Click on any of the photos to jump back to original posts to see additional description and detail of the hats.
