Royal Hats

Queen Sonja visited Svalbard on Thursday to meet those impacted by the December avalanche. Her snowflake printed faux fur cap was a great hat on her for this visit (Royal House of Norway)

Norwegian Television has released a seven part documentary on the occasion of the King and Queen’s silver jubilee. While in Norwegian, there is great historical footage to be seen. (NRK)

  1. The star of More Hats this week is definitely Zara Phillips. I liked everything she wore. A big thanks to FabulousBubbles for the links and information.

Queen Sonja’s snowflakes hat is cute.

Princess Josephine and Prince Vincent look so cute, and I thought the photo of them posing in their hats with the koala, which I presume was taken on their recent holiday in Australia, was memorable. Happy fifth birthdays to you both.

It was kind of Rachel Trevor Morgan to design the brooch for charity. I hope that she makes some new spectacular hats for the Queen this year. I’d like to see a change from the standard brimmed hats with flower or feather trims, that has become a uniform for the Queen in recent years.

The Royal News section videos featuring the Norwegian and Swedish monarchies were interesting.

Young Prince George of Cambridge is such a photogenic child. I hope he enjoys his pre-school.

  2. Greetings from Australia! Loved watching the Magic Millions Races coverage on Saturday, whilst eagerly watching Instagram feed for the fashion details. Zara looked gorgeous in the Ellery paisley dress and Danica Erard Millinery “Vintage Straw Sculpture Headpiece in violet”. Here are the links to the @rosemarypantlingstylist Instagram pages for details on Zara’s outfits (I’ve also included the blurb from each post, in case the links don’t work!):- (blue paisley dress, with violet headpiece)
@rosemarypantlingstylistIt’s been an absolute pleasure to style Zara Phillips for Jeep Magic Millions this week. Keep up the great work with the Royal Hats blog – I love reading the daily feed.

    • Thanks so much for the links and the hat information! Zara wore Danica Erard last year but Niel Grigg (who has made hats for Crown Princess Mary of Denmark) and Suzy O’Rourke are new designers for her. I thought all three pieces were fantastic on her and she looked great at at the races this year.

      • My absolute pleasure! I’m glad I could help contribute. As one other post mentioned, it’s frustrating when the media coverage doesn’t include fashion details, let alone millinery details – that’s why I love reading researched blogs like yours!

  3. I enjoyed This Week’s Extras HatQueen. I really liked the hat worn by Queen Sonja with the snowflakes on it. It had a certain Scandinavian charm. The Swedish and Norwegian Royal videos were entertaining. Prince George looked cute and rather confident starting school at just 2.5 years of age! Zara Phillips looked good and wore three great dresses and hats to the Magic Millions. I especially thought the purple paisley dress with that interestingly shaped purple hat made quite the statement. I admire her very much and I wish her every success in her quest to win Gold at the Rio Olympics this year.

    • Thanks for the link James – great pictures … but I made the mistake of reading the text. Apparently the hat and coat are a ‘favourite’ of the Queen and the coat is ‘tweed’. Apparently, Kate’s outfit was ‘brown’. And a blonde woman in a green outfit was identified in the caption as Sophie – a quick look could have solved that one!

  4. I really enjoyed the video review of the Swedish royals – couldn’t understand what they were saying but it’s nice to see them ‘in action’.

  5. I agree with efrompdx. Zara looks so much better this year. I like her straw swirl percher and the hat with the blue and orange feathers. I don’t trust the DM to get any details correct 🙂 so HQ is the straw swirl really a fascinator? To me it looks too substantial to fit into that category and would be happy to learn more. It’s a shame the milliners aren’t credited by the writer (or even the other dress designers).

  6. Zara looks much better this year. Her clothes fit better and suit her better. The hats are actually quite attractive! I wouldn’t mind a closer look at the blue one with feathers…
