Day 5 Royal Ascot: Princess Beatrice

Royal Ascot  The York Princesses also attended the final day of Royal Ascot today and, in a sweet moment, Princess Beatrice stepped in to present her grandmother with the Hardwicke Stakes cup. She wore a navy ‘slice’ brimmed hat described by the designer as a “straw coulis base with silk poppy trim.”

Jill: This entire look is wonderful! The dress is youthful and fashion forward and the hat is divine. The Princess looks lovely in navy and the clean simple line of this hat with the minimal trim looks effortless. I have been saying it all week but this is another fine example of the trim both above and below the platter adding a nice softness around the face. An absolutely wonderful look for Ascot!

Royal Hats: Talk about saving best until last! Great colour, great shape, great scale, great embellishment. It’s such a beautiful hat on Beatrice and one of my favourites of the week.

Fiona: This is also a great look today – a beautiful floaty print dress and classic courts, you can’t go wrong. Navy seems to be a really big colour this year! I nearly think her hat from yesterday may have worked with this outfit too – perhaps that will come out another day!!! The hat is very simple, nothing extraordinary, but compliments the dress beautifully. What I like about this hat is that it appears there is one enormous flower, split in two by the hat.

Christie: This is my favourite hat on the Princess all week! How gorgeous. I love how the detailing of the orchid petals works with the ruching in her dress. The hat seems to throw green somehow in the light. How intriguing! I would just love the Princess to have burgundy lips with this – what a knock out look it would be then! I just love it.

Designer: Gina Foster. It is the Lamington design from the SS2016 Anniversary Collection

  1. I like this hat very much on Bea, she looks great with bigger brims. The dress is very nice as well. The pattern adds interest but the silhouette is simple, which works for her.

  2. I generally don’t like these flat hats, but the trim under the brim makes a big difference. Agree that it’s a good match to her dress.

  3. Very good, she looks great. The dress is busy (and does look a bit shapeless in some pics, but that’s just an illusion of the pattern I think) so is smell balanced by the hat. A bit of a hit and miss week for Bea but she came very good on the last day!

  4. I think she is on the young side for the hat. The dress is really nice. It is soft flowing and that helps carry the pattern and colour . Reminds me of something her Mother would wear.

  5. I agree that this is Beatrice’s best look all week! I really like this wider brim on her, and the solid color of her hat and shoes helps balance out her patterned dress. Brava!

  6. Gorgeous! The hat is lovely, the dress is fun and youthful, and the color is absolutely fantastic on Princess Beatrice.

  7. The print on the dress-with-long-sleeves is too busy for my tastes, but if she had it remade into a sleeveless dress, I would be all over this outfit! The hat and the shoes are beautiful–I really love them.

  8. Lovely! It is interesting that Gina Foster says “Secured with a hairband and worn on the right of the head” bur Beatrice wore it on the left and it was still perfect!
