I absolutely adore eagle eyed readers and offer three cheers for the one who noticed that the distinctive yellow and white pleated brim hat that Princess Hisako of Takamado wore to King Carl Gustaf’s birthday in late April wasn’t a new piece as we thought. It first appeared at Infanta Christina’s wedding in 1997! Great catch.

Crown Prince Naruhito and Crown Princess Masako attended the 52nd National Convention for the promotion of blood donation took place in Tokyo. Princess Masako wore a simple white hat with wide hatband in palest blue.

Legendary royal milliner John Boyd shared this photo of a trio of recent designs- wonderfully retro and glamorous. Which one of the British royal heads would best wear one of these hats?

  1. The John Boyd hats are tres chic! I can see them on the younger English royals: Eugenie, Beatrice or Zara. Other royals who could wear these are Queen Mathilde and Princess Mary. Unfortunately, this hat style seems to come down a little too far on the side to work with Queen Elizabeth’s hairstyle. Isn’t it interesting that a style taken from the 1940s seems most suitable now for the most daring of the young royals.

  2. I agree that the John Boyd designs look very Zara, although the Countess of Wessex could carry them off with one of her full-skirted ensembles.

  3. Love the many photos of the Dutch Royal Family, nice and informal and incredibly natural. Beautiful Queen Maxima in very stylish trousers too, after a recent concussion apparently.

  4. The John Boyd’s hats would look best on Zara Tindall or Princess Eugenie. Zara has always been edgy with her sartorial choices, and those gorgeous hats would look amazing on her. I have been loving Eugenie’s hat choices lately, and her red ensemble and black hat at the Queen’s 90th birthday celebrations had a stunning retro quality about it.

  5. It has to be Zara Tindall wearing the gorgeous blue John Boys hat. Just her style – low on her forehead, to one side and with her hair in a chignon. Stylish Zara!!
