to a royal visit to Oman, thirty-eight years ago this month, that saw the most unflappable queen battle a gust of wind for her hat.

She is such a pro! That must have been a strong wind to overcome the Royal hatpins!
Does she ever use hat pins to keep hats fastened on?
HM doesn’t miss a beat! More reason to believe she is a queen above queens in awesomeness. And the man in these photos doesn’t seem to flinch either, knowing she can handle the situation like a true boss. 😀
A rare occurrence. HM’s dressers are usually masters of the art of hatpinning. (Thank goodness for the role of royalty in keeping these traditional atelier skills alive)!
But I blame that brimmed hat, the “hat to do the gardening in”. HM in that era wore a few of these knotted-tie-at-the-back straw hats, which reflected the then-current trend to less formality in fashion. Compared to what HM wears today, this hat just doesn’t seem smart enough for the occasion.
Unflappable is her constant. Love the white hat actually coming off. QEII is adorable!
Not often do we see this!

I love this one from last week’s red hat, March 31, 2011.
Not a flattering picture, but it is, of course, the hat (and entire outfit, except for shoes) worn just this past Sunday at Sandringham.
,,, and such a beautiful hat it is ~ certainly well worth holding on to 🙂
Oh Goodness! Unflappable indeed.
