Hat From The Past

Royal Hats to a royal visit to Oman, thirty-eight years ago this month, that saw the most unflappable queen battle a gust of wind for her hat.

  1. HM doesn’t miss a beat! More reason to believe she is a queen above queens in awesomeness. And the man in these photos doesn’t seem to flinch either, knowing she can handle the situation like a true boss. 😀

  2. A rare occurrence. HM’s dressers are usually masters of the art of hatpinning. (Thank goodness for the role of royalty in keeping these traditional atelier skills alive)!
But I blame that brimmed hat, the “hat to do the gardening in”. HM in that era wore a few of these knotted-tie-at-the-back straw hats, which reflected the then-current trend to less formality in fashion. Compared to what HM wears today, this hat just doesn’t seem smart enough for the occasion.

    • Not a flattering picture, but it is, of course, the hat (and entire outfit, except for shoes) worn just this past Sunday at Sandringham.
