The use of real fur in royal millinery is a controversial one and, for good reason, the practice has been widely dropped. With this ethical awareness guiding us today, it’s still fun to look back to a different time in fashion… a time that seems ruled by luxe glamour. This undated photo of then Princess Paola of Belgium in a fur (or faux fur?) turban with matching cuffs on the sleeves of her suit seems like a quintessential example of early 1960s high end style.

Queen Paola always exudes glamor and is the poster child for the royals of the 1960s! I must be honest and admit I love fur.
Beautiful indeed. I love the way the hat sits well back on her head. There is no mistaking this hat for a ski cap. Especially with the big earrings ( matching the coat buttons). And what gorgeous Chanel-esque quilting! Lovely.
Very beautiful; she is lovely, and so chic. My wedding gown in winter 1969 was a simple sheath of candlelight silk satin with matching panel train at the shoulders, and a hood and cuffs trimmed in White Mink. Too bad the marriage didn’t last, but I still have the beautiful gown!

At first glance, I thought it was Farah Diba, former Empress of Iran. She was photographed so much in the 1960s. Princess Paola looks very chic, very Jackie O!!
