The Het Loo Palace exhibition featuring 111 hats worn by Princess Beatrix opened this week. If any of you are able to take it in, I would love to hear about it! (Vorsten)
Tessy de Nassau (former Princess of Luxembourg) having fun with a bowler hat
Queen Margrethe in her tweed trimmed red hat on Tuesday to present the “Queen’s Clock” military award. Is it me or is this piece looking a little worse for wear?
Some of you remember Belgian milliner Christophe Coppens, who made many a hat for the Belgian royals until he abruptly closed up shop in 2012. This article from the New York times details his departure from the millinery industry and what he’s up to now.Â
Philip Treacy shared this lovely throwback photo of the late Duchess of Devonshire being fitted for a spectacular black cocktail hat. Magic.
Stephen Jones does it again, releasing this photo of another hat from his A/W 2017 collection. How much do I want to see this knit crown (with spotted lurex faux ermine) appear on a British royal head at Trooping the Colour this year?!

Princess Aiko graduated from the Japanese equivalent of Junior High School (Imperial Family Of Japan)
Great slideshow of Princess Eugenie to celebrate her 27th birthday (Express)
Swedish royal ladies looking fantastic in jewel tones for an official dinner they hosted this week (Swedish Royal Court)
Princess Aiko is lovely. I hope her graduation brings a change in school uniform. Once a young lady is taller than her parents, a shapeless sailor dress is too young.
Agreed that Queen Margarethe should retire that hats.
Het Loo exhibit looks well-designed, especially that wireform piece in the foreground of rhe second photo.
Debo was fabulous, wasn’t she?
First of all, doesn’t PBeatrix look wonderful? Sure, her hats are of a similar type (layer cakes), but I’m sure the exhibit is very interesting.
Ah, Debo…always at the forefront. She is missed.
Congratulations to PAiko, PSofia and PC-P…
The Swedish ladies knocked it out of the park!
Great snippets of news and photos! My favorite, of course, is Debo in that sharp cocktail hat…I wonder if she wore it to feed the chickens!
Definitely will be visiting Het Loo it is a beautiful place in its own right – you can even have afternoon tea in the chandeliered ballroom which I would LOVE to do – but even more reason to go again with the hat exhibition being on! Hoping they allow photos as last time I went they did not. Ironic that Princess Beatrix did NOT wear hat to the opening!!
wow this is a big post, thank you!
I had a look at the post on the Duchess of Cambridge’s blue hats – where is the one she wore on arrival in Canada?
It’s there- hat #7. Keep scrolling!
I want to see Bea’s hats sooooooo much, but Appeldoorn isn’t the highest on my list of places to visit, and I don’t think I’ll convince my other half! Even Bea looks a bit surprised by that hat, she’s quite the one when it comes to millinery….
I saw the Beatrix hat exhibit on Patrick van Katwijk’s Instagram stories, and I was so jealous! Looks to be a fun exhibit! Disappointed Beatrix didn’t wear a hat to the opening, however.
A bit awkward I missed the news Tessy and Louis had divorced, and sad that we won’t have the most interesting hat wearer in the family anymore.
And yes, that Treacy photo of the Dowager Duchess of Devonshire is divine!
In answer to your question regarding Queen Margrethe’s hat: I would have to say, looking at its other appearances for comparison, that it does look rather tired now. Perhaps we can hope for a new hat and costume soon.
Such a lot of interesting facts, thanks for putting together this post.
Delightful photos of Princess Aiko and her parents.
My book club is reading “The Six” (The lives of the Mitford Sisters) by Laura Thompson this month, so it is fun to see the hat fitting for the late dowager Duchess of Devonshire (née Deborah “Debo” Mitford)!
We need to charter a flight to Het Loo Palace and all wear our best cake hats!
I’m in, as long as Chatsworth is also on the itinerary!
