to this day in 1980 which saw Queen Elizabeth on a visit to Worcester in a veiled emerald green pillbox hat with black bow on the top. The colour is lovely but I’m less certain about that bow.

I think the hat is charming, bow and all!! The color of the whole ensemble is fabulous, and I think it could be worn today.
What a beautiful emerald green. Love it!
I don’t like the hats QEII wears that have no hair showing on her forehead. I think if this one was back a little bit so some hair showed in the front I would like it better. Without any hair showing the space between her eyebrows and the front rim of the hat looks huge.
I agree!
I found this interesting: two hats for the same ensemble!

(There is also a black/white photo of HM with this hat, taken in April of 1988, in Geelong, down under, where she is inspecting a sheep(!)
This hat always reminds me of a silver candy dish we had growing up, always filled with holiday candy.

The hat should be brought out of the closet and given to Kate with some modifications made to wear as a pillbox with the bow moved to the back. I’d like to see QEII wear this coat again.
I agree with @JamesB; she definitely could wear that coat again today. I would love to see her repeat this emerald color and that beautiful brooch, but the hat can remain in the past.
Yes, that bow makes it look as though the Queen might just fly up and off. The whole look is not flattering. Nice top stitching on the coat, but it makes the coat look dated.
It’s interesting that the Queen seems to have given up darker green as one of her standard colors, although she used to wear this color reasonably often.
Gorgeous colour and I do love a veil.
Fab colour, it’s the shape that’s wrong for me. With her hairdo, it gives her sort of wings at the side, which are a little odd.
I could see her in that coat today though.
