Thanks for the color photos. It looks even better than it did in black and white. So vibrant and chic. Didn’t the stewardesses for one of the airlines wear similar hats? Definitely looked better on Paola!
That is really a 60’s look! I can’t decide if I like the hat or not, but she looks gorgeous. I think at the time, I would have liked the hat a lot, but now, I am indecisive. It reminds me of something Audrey Hepburn might have worn.
Fierce!
Gorgeous look on a gorgeous lady.
That is indeed a chic ensemble.
I was in my teens in the sixties and I am sure I had this outfit! It was pale green and I had navy accessories. I thought I was very chic……
If you looked like this, you WERE chic!
This one isn’t a pillbox, but now that HatQueen has me thinking about placement, I’d say this is one time when “off the back” makes sense.
I agree- the cuff brim changes the look of this hat and I think dictates the placement (which really works).
These “beehive” hats of the sixties seem to go hand in hand with the trendy beehive hairstyle of the same era. Both can seem overly tall to modern eyes – but when it’s Princess Paola, I am won over completely. She was born to wear this style. Love that cheeky sixties pose in the second photo.

Here’s another angle (with a bonus shot of her lovely fish brooch!)

The same I believe, in colour 🙂 NB hard to tell whether the true colour was orange or yellow – there is a lot of variation in the available pics. The yellow ones look overexposed and the orange ones look underexposed.
Same brooch, different side.
