Princess Benedikte Returns To Royal Engagements

Princess Benedikte made a return to royal engagements on Sunday (following her husband, Prince Richard’s unexpected death), attending the Danish Osteoporosis Society’s anniversary in Aarhus. She wore a new hat for the event in royal purple straw, trimmed with a pink hatband and large grey and burgundy flower at the side. The flower looks to be the same one as has adorned her navy straw hat, leading me to suspect it is a removable embellishment- something Danish royal milliner Susanne Juul has done before. Princess Benedikte wears this shade of purple well and the combination of trim on the hat and her pale pink suit unexpectedly works.

Previously Worn: this hat is new

Yesterday, Queen Margrethe, Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary sailed into Oslo aboard the Danish royal yacht Dannebrog. Queen Margrethe repeated the new navy hat with wide hatband we saw her debut on May 3.

Thoughts about this Danish pair of royal hats?

  1. Love this new hat for Benedikte! The floral trim definitely look to be the same as the navy milan straw one she has (which is another great hat for her, btw). I know I’ve been more excited for interchangeable trim in the past, but now I’m not as certain; this may be because I’ve seen many royal hats with trim so precise it can only go with a certain outfit and therefore is not very versatile. I want more versatile hats and outfits in general so we don’t always see the same hat with the same outfit.

Margrethe, I know we all seemed to love this hat, but really, repeating it a week later, and with the same outfit no less? (minus the big pussy bow scarf) Please refer to my point above (meant with much love, of course!)

  2. Princess Benedikte looks beautiful. The color and shape of her hat are both very flattering, and I love the transferable flower trim.

Her sister’s hat looks especially fitting for the nautical setting.

  3. Both ladies wear these hats well, but I cannot help thinking Benedikte’s hair is more becoming to hats than her sister’s. One has to be careful with long hair that you don’t get the dreaded “bald look”. It is an on-going issue for Queen Margrethe.
